i dont think i can really help because i havent done it?
but i dont think it can be less than -2.. if u draw up a table of values then graph it ull see it keeps doing down and down
but yeh i dunno it could be related to something we havent done yet

l would say -3.

Two times X = 2x - 5 = -2

Thats how l would do it...you really need to draw up a table.

But thats just a guess...

l'd put X as 1, but you could put it as any number really, it there any other parts or numbers to that question?

I did it again (not sure if its right or not) but l ended up with 2/1 or -2/1.

Umm if the absolute value of 2x-5 will always be positive therefore it will always be greater then -2. Since an absolute value is always +ve.

Absolute Value is the distance from 0 on a number line. This means it is always positive, ie -3 is 3 units from 0 so |-3|=3 and 3 is also 3 units from 0 so |3|=3.

|2x-5| > -2

i prefer to do this by graphing y=|2x-5| and y=-2 and seeing where 'y=|2x-5| is above, or greater than, 'y=-2'. sometimes simultaneous equations may need to be used. but, i am unsure that whether general does graphing.

Rahul its always going to be above that, since the two possible equations intersect on the x-axis.

Xayma, you are right. :)

i didnt pay much attention to the question actually, rather than trying to point out a general method.

I think gretired misread the question. We can only hope he/she is going to reread the thread and correct the question.

Nothing inside absolute values can ever be negative, even in 4 unit.

hmm...i remember doing absolute values last year. but we did stuff with margins, percentages and using the + or -. in the same chapter we did normal distribution u know 99.5 and all that...
