Hey, Well I'm about to start year 12, and yes everyone says that its normal to be worried/stressed out.. But myself I am not a very good student.. I tend to be lazy and don't find the motivation to do good, I study when needed but i seem to forget stuff in exams.. i'm really scared when i get to my year 12 exams that i will get a bad UAI, And i'll just overall fail in life..

I get to the point were i dont know what to do with my life, and it really scares me cause I dont want to scew it all up..

As i said above im just overall not a very smart person.. And I just want to be able to get a decent UAI to help me live my live after school..

Anyone got opinions on how I could become a better student and get a decent UAI?

lol, first of all - get over the UAI. the uai does not determine whether you'll be successful or not.

secondly, the hsc is not a measure of intelligence, but dedication/determination.

study 2-3 hours a day conssitently, and you're guanrateed 80+

It is still a measure of intelligence, smart people have to study less to get a good UAI.

thats true to an extent, but trust me smart people still have to study a lot to do well. Don't think that smart people will be studying less than other people, i really think that if you go to a selective school and see how much they study, you'll realize why they do so well.

anyway, if you really want to get a better UAI, then you will work harder, theres no point just saying that...so you'll be fine.

30 minutes - 1 hour everyday extra fixes that problem.

Unless your absoloutely as dumb as a door knob you can get a good uai (one that will get you into uni). Seriously, just start all your assesments the day they are given to you & hand in a couple drafts before the final copy. Commit to a regular study pattern even if its only like an hour a day and just pick it up a bit before exams. The HSC is easy to succeed in with consistent effort and organisation, end of story, and wtf are you stressing for its not like you have the HSC in less than a week.

If your not motivated doing little bits each day really helps with assessments because even if it comes down to a night before job you've still done some ground work and have some direction from your teachers to go on.

Everyone always says this, but i often find it impossible as more often then not we will receive an assessment very early on in our class study of a topic. As a result it is not until a few weeks later that i feel i have enough confidence/knowledge to write well on the topic. Does anyone else get this?

what do you mean by a decent UAI? what are you aiming for? like what the others have been saying, i reckon consistent study everyday will get you a UAI of 80 plus for sure, mabye if your smart 90 plus (if u go to a selective school) plus, a decent uai doenst mean a decent life, just relax, im reasonably sure yr 12 wont be too much different from yr 11, except that all our exams and stuff will actually matter this time round, but dont take my word for it

as long as u get 60 uai so that u can get into a uni course ull be fine. as long as u pass your uni courses u can transfer to another course if u want to. of course if you want to transfer into physio or something else really competitive then u have to do a bit better once your in uni. life will not end on the planet if u dont get 99 uai. at least i hope it doesnt - cos then im buggered lol
seriously but stress less

ps. if u dont get 60 and you're trying then you're retarded

Don't worry about it. All you have to do is to focus on your studies and make sure that you are able to concentrate to get good grades.

study 2-3 hours a day consistently, and you're guaranteed 80+
As if 2-3 hours doesn't get you at least 90+ >.<

Gah,

I feel the exact same, I am scared that I wont get a UAI good enough to get into uni. feel extremely stressed because I know 2u mathematics will bring me down alot. I will most likely fail because I am not good at maths even when I study for it. I wish I could drop to general but I cant because I need mathematics for B Science at uni ( which is looking even more unlikely by the second).

If I dont get a good UAI its over I will have a crap job, no respect from others and a crap life.

School makes me very sick, during the prelim exams the weeks before the exams, I had a terrible infection because of my low immune due to stress, I was very depressed and for some days wouldnt eat anything. I dont sleep well at all when I think about school ( every night). This is effecting me poorly, my parents are taking me to Egypt this term because they know their I have family to talk to and am slightly more happy.

I got in through an alternate pathway with a UAI of 98........go FIGURE!

The HSC is an overated and emphasised crapshoot. Just do your best.

I got a HSC UAI of 54.5........In my HSC year my homelife was volatile and I couldn't study. I got overall 78 in english , 89 in senior science, 77 in modern history, 75 in software design and development. 70 in general mathematics

Due to the particular mix of subjects, I got cut down in UAI savagely.
This UAI allowed me to get into a B.Business in the middle of nowhere (Albury/Wodonga at La Trobe university)

My father pushed me into it. Which meant I was 700km's away from home, knew no-one and was doing a degree I simply didn't want to do (you see any high level maths in my HSC? no!). I dropped out due to depression after a single semester.

For the next 3 years I entered the workforce. I got a job in brisbane as a junior draftsman cause I did a crappy TAFE unit in year 11 for AutoCAD

....In 2007 I decided to get into back on the path to University.....I did 'Open Foundation' at Ourimbah campus (near gosford) of Newcastle university,

http://www.newcastle.edu.au/centre/elfsc/open/

I chose two subjects in that which were English, Film and Literature and Ancient History and Culture. I did about 4-5 assessment tasks in each subject and sat two 2-hour exams for each subject - all in one short semester. Along the way I met people from all walks of life and I loved my time doing it. I actually enjoyed studying. It wasn't a huge pressure to perform like the crapshoot that is the HSC. It only cost me 1 semester of time and $0.

I came out with a UAI of 98.

No 5+ subjects to remember while cramming all those subjects into one set of exams that hold 50% of your mark.

My point is never let yourself be beaten by your own doubts - if you have the will, you will find a way. Never say die.

See, I want to a bachelor of Science. To do that you need mathematics, I really really really wish I could do general maths.

So if I get a UAI of 40, is tafe course possible and then you just transfer to uni a year after your tafe course?

Mathematics is an assumed knowledge but not a pre-requisite. Which means they won't be checking for it, but the material you end up studying assumes you have knowledge of it.

Besides that, bridging units for mathematics are everywhere.

I can't really answer the question regarding TAFE because I don't know what specific branch of science you are interested in.
