Hey,
This year I am doing an arts/edu degree to teach history.
I am wondering is it a must to do ancient history components in the degree or can I just do Modern and Australian history?

I know It is looked favourably upon if you have done both modern and ancient components, but do you have to or can you still be qualified with just modern and Australian units?

Thanks for any help.

You are best to ring the university that you are attending, as it may vary from uni to uni, and also may vary from state to state.

There will be some subjects that you HAVE to do to complete history as a specialisation. Try the website, or phone the edu dept at the university. Be advised though, that you will not learn everything at Uni that you will be expected to teach once you start teaching, so you may not need to do all of them.

Most of the History teachers I know only teach either Modern or Ancient (usually with English) as they only studied one or the other at uni but when you get into the schools you might very well have to teach the other one so having a unit or two won't hurt.
