actually i dont know if thats right cos the nari bit screws it up a bit. my dictionary gives a weird example so im not really sure what it is sorry

yeah japs often drop the ~masu off of verbs in casual conversation .. without even turning them into plain form verbs. (strange eh?) I heard this Jap guy say on this drift racing dvd i've got:

"I[XgAs" (I'll go to Australia)

Seeing the above post reminded me that becoming would be uĂv so without the "~te iru" this sentence is actually a casual form of
{͐Vɐ܂ "hontou jitsu wa seiten ni narimasu"

--Today will become a fine day.

In this case it's not the stem form of the verb, but...

Ȃ is a classical form equivalent to ł.
