ok i concur that Ethenylbenzene is correct...*hangs head in shame*

on a more happier note, the IUPAC name for styrene is also right for phenyl ethene.

disregarding the idiot about me

the reason: ethenylbenzene since the functional group 1st in the alphabet (benzene) is the main one

so benzene cause its before ethene becomes the main function group

haha, but thats not IUPAC name

but if a test asking u to give name to styrene, and draw the ethene as the main chain like normal and benzene as a function group what would u call it?

but if they just draw a hexagon with circle in side its just a phenyl group no necessarily benzene so u have to name it phenyl ethene!

I don't mean to make her sound like even more of an idiot, but she doesn't know me, not even on BoS, as she's had only 3 posts. :p

We're going with phenyl ethene, but maybe we should write both phenyl ethene and benzylethene in the exam just to be safe.

Do the last 6 posts all belong to you? :p

Erm. You can't write two answers for a one answer question, that defeats the purpose of examining it ;P

sorry bout multiposting, its a skills upgrade when a heated debate happens :)

anywayz, i would write phenyl ethene to be more safe as the whole ring group with 6 carbon belong to it.

maybe some one check past hsc answer if such a question occured.
