just becoz ppl like to cancel or accept later round offers which makes vacancy occur
Yes....but we're talking about why there are vacancies in the main round when it was released (ie, before people could accept/reject them), when there have only been very few offers made in the prelim/early round.Originally posted by santaslayer

The general (mis?)conception here was that the last person that filled the quota who applied, and qualified, was the cut off. See hereOriginally posted by kentwell
e.g. Bachelor of ______ 68.35 (V)
Available course places: 100
Total Applicants (somewhere in their 9 preferences): 400
Applicants (out of 400) who receieve a higher preference: 160
Applicants (out of 400) who do not qualify: 150
Applicants (out of 400) who qualify: 90
Vacancies: 10
Number of people with UAI greater than or equal to 68.35 who did not receive any offers [and who DID NOT APPLY for Bachelor of ______ 68.35 (V)]: 230
If you received no offers but qualify for a course in terms of UAI but did not apply for it, then you do not automatically get offered that course just because you receieved a UAI over the course cutoff.
