One of my teachers was telling us during class that a boy from my school (last year?) was sitting on an ATAR estimate of 70 up until the trials. However, he achieved a final ATAR of 98.

Even if he attained a really high mark in the trials and the actual HSC exams, it would not be enough right?
Mind you, he did go to James Ruse. Albeit, how is this possible? Surely the ranking of the school would not be such a paramount factor?

I don't know, I just have trouble wrapping my mind around this. It's just amazing.

There's no way anyone at Ruse was sitting on an estimate of 70 unless they were coming dead last in all their subjects. Even then I'm doubtful.

I've heard of kids being in the middle of the cohort half way through the year then becoming dux. But, 70-98, not true.
