How does the reputation system work? (1 Viewer)

I'm confused about how this system works. Obviously the more reputation points you get, the more more bars you have. But I seem to be getting random amounts of reputation points everytime I get repped, with the number being somewhere between 1 and 12. On what basis is this decided?
And how many points do you need to go up a bar? 100?

The rep given is based on who is repping you, so for arguments sake someone with 1 Bar may be able to give 1 Rep, someone with 12 Bars, can give 12 Rep etc. (Not actual numbers)

Well we've worked out why the number of points given is always different, and I'm pretty sure the division for the bars is 100 points. But how long do we have to wait between giving/receiving rep?

Well people rep you if you help them or for what ever reason... its done by that white icon under each persons name in the post section
