i play violin (grade 5) im pretty bad with sight reading i tend to make up my own notes hehe..

Not tooooooo bad at sightreading. Being in an ensemble helps though.

i can barely play anymore, let alone read music...can barely read tabs now (guitar). HSC is taking over everything!

Sightreading is a matter of forcing yourself to learn chordy pieces (start easy) and just playing lots of stuff you don't know..

btw, sight-transposition on organ is killer... *shudders* thankfully, haven't had to do that for ages.

Anyway, back to the point... if you want to learn to sight-read, do lots of it. What helped me (I think) is looking at the chords, and playing the closest thing you can play to it... if you try and learn your pieces by sight-reading it'll help after a while!

i sight read better than my friend who is 7th grade

i never completed a grade but i did learn piano for 1 and a half years.. 6 years ago.

played piano ever since, all these songs learnt myself :)




edit : i just realised ive been playin piano for 6-7 years..cant believe that.

Some people find it easy (they get lots of practice I guess) and to be fair the music they give you to sightread is usually really simple. But most of us have trouble reading ahead, into uncharted territory. :p

i like to sight read...but i'm not that good at remembering the song without the .....*mind blank*....the notes and script thingy..

and usually takes vv long to remember so from grade 5 i just used the script in the exam...
but im trying to do it for 8th grade now..
