Do i have to be happy or is this just social pressure?
Life is pretty good at the moment. Self-Esteem is good. Mental Health is good. School/Uni is awesome considering I am in in between the HSC and Uni . Friendships are great [Mostly - stupid dramas are unavoidable sometimes]. Family is ok. The future is looking very bright. The only thing that could be better is my love life, but hey, it's not like I'm not trying haha.Hey everyone! I just thought it would be interesting to get a snapshot of how the youth (us) feels about themselves and life..This poll question relates to absolutely everything in your life..self-esteem, mental health, school or uni work, friendship, love, family, the future, existential dilemmas!, and how you feel about the world. Does life suck or is it a delight? Why? Discuss.
forget about that scale.
let's see...
---------
do i have clean safe drinking water from the tap?
yes.
do i have access to health services?
yes.
is my country a democratic country?
yes.
does my country have a relatively very good welfare system?
yes.
does my country uphold the rule of law?
yes.
freedom of religion?
yes.
freedom of movement?
yes.
country mostly free from corruption?
yes
honestly.
if you think you've got it tough,
go have a cry in the corner.
life is good for anyone in (mainland) Australia.
i understand that some of you have been unfortunate as to have grown up in an unstable family environment.
if that is the case, seek help, move on.
i know of plenty of people who've been brought up in some bad circumstances, but they've grown and matured to be great people.
whereas if you've had a relatively great life, growing up in the northern/eastern suburbs, and you're thinking 'life sucks' because your dad will only buy you a 3 series BMW.. then... i challenge you to visit the slums in a developing country.
life isn't that hard.
ultimately it's the stupid decisions you make yourself that makes it harder for you.
ie. irresponsible use of alcohol.. hello risk of alcoholism/broken family/broken relationships/health issues. ie kidney/liver
use of illicit drugs...depending on the drug and usage: addiction, family break down, disowned by friends, moving on to harder drugs, mental health, as well as physical health problems.
if you're a girl and you're are attracted to assholes, it is probably because of your upbringing. maybe your dad treated your mom like shit.
maybe you get anxious about your partner cheating on you..
were your parents divorced, did one of them just leave?
confront and resolve.
no not at you.haha was this directed @ me? bc 5/10 isnt exactly a terrible rating :S
Good post.life is good for anyone in (mainland) Australia.
a generalisation if i ever heard one. Happiness does not have a universal definition. Money isn't everything, and just because someone has the aforementioned, it does not mean they are happy; and just because they lack them, it does not mean they are unhappy. I believe in being grateful for what you have, but the "life is good for anyone in Australia" is a really, really dangerous viewpoint to have.

Some people are STILL living under an unstable family environment. It's something they have to deal with everyday. Considering the economy and the price of rent and the jobs most teenagers are able to get, I don't see how you think that's going to improve any time soon.
i know of plenty of people who've been brought up in some bad circumstances, but they've grown and matured to be great people.
As do I. But not all people are the same, and not all people bounce back.
whereas if you've had a relatively great life, growing up in the northern/eastern suburbs, and you're thinking 'life sucks' because your dad will only buy you a 3 series BMW.. then... i challenge you to visit the slums in a developing country.
You know nothing about the emotional investment their dad made. You know nothing about what goes on behind closed doors. Again, money =/= happiness.

Are you making the assumption that everybody who has expressed dissatisfaction within this thread has used alcohol or illicit drugs?

Yeah mate, no shit, but 18 years of witnessing such a thing, isn't exactly easy to get over. You don't come away from a childhood like that without scars.
maybe you get anxious about your partner cheating on you..
were your parents divorced, did one of them just leave?
See above.
confront and resolve.
Easier said than done.
Have a little compassion, bro.
