I hate the way the media rates schools in the newspaper in these so called school rankings, because it is discouraging for people who go to these schools. Because anyone can get any marks and UAI they want, regardless of which school they go to, and regardless of how people at their school last year went.

Even if you went to the school that came last on this list, and if you are dux of your school, and if you get good marks in the HSC, then you can just just as good and even better UAI than people who go to James Ruse.
Something we agree on.

so in your sense, I can see why you say that is typical marks.

But the reason why I don't like this is because it can destroy people's hope at getting good marks. And this is something which I definitely don't want to do.

Yep, past HSc'ers have always told me

90 - 95 = learning ur content
95 - 98 = mastering it
98 - 100 = natural talent and mastering it
Personally, I refuse to believe that talent separates certain students from others. Sure at the beginning certain maybe 'better' than others, but in the end if you work hard enough you will be able to do as well, if not better than certain talented individuals =).

Of course, the only limitations you have are those in which you place on yourself.

Work harder and prove him wrong...

(our school simply refuses to give estimates...)

A UAI of 80+ is difficult if you look at it from a percentile perspective. Only approximately 30-40% of all HSC students will get a UAI of 80+ (I am trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about but I don't).

can i just ask, is it true that if you get 90+ in all your subjects would you get a good uai (like 97 and above) but your assesment marks and ranks arent that good and not that bad either?

Tha doesnt make any sense at all.

If you get 90+in all your subs, yes UAI 97 is likely probably higher.

Your internal tests really just form the rank.
Refer to other threads for more info.

That still depends on how well you did in your internals... rank-wise. But 90+ never hurts.

Not hard at all. Been there, done that. Do the work necessary and don't leave things to the last second.

there is only a certain amount of people that can get each UAI, some people have to get 50-60, 60-70, etc..

just try your best. if your course only needs 70 and your not one of the ones right at the top of your class, then pick a reasonable target and work towards reasonable goals.

I think even if you get a UAI of 70 for some people this is a great achievement.

Do your internal ranks contribute to your UAI? Internal tests and assessments?

I think it's more about your ranks rather than your marks. I could be wrong though.

Anyone know for sure?
