she is always refered to as "aunt robin" to the kids, so she cant be the mother.

The writers of the show did a genius thing, the very first episode of the show where he says to the kids after his first date with Robin"And that's how I Met Your Aunt Robin"

So yeah, even though Ted and Robin seem more and more perfect for each other it just isn't going to turn out that way, Genius

the show is good but because they have to put in some romance, as is the nature of the show, its not as funny as your typical sitcom.

and IMO, the relationships are kind of foggy. the narrator is telling the story of how I (ted) met your (the kids mother) mother. its not necessarily how I (ted) met my wife. so it could be that Ted is telling the story to kids that arent his kids. it makes sense in that regard, and it would also mean that the whole "aunt robin" thing works too.

the term "your mother" is very contextual, and I dont know if the writers have as yet given a concrete indication of which context we are talking about yet.

just my thoughts

In the earlier episodes, when the kids have lines, they always refer to him as "Dad". So it wouldn't be that Ted is telling the story to kids that aren't his own.
