anyone know how many year 12 students there will probably be in 09?
i just estimated 50,000 randomly
if that were true would that mean u would have to be in the top 5000 to get a result above 90%

All the year 12s that I've talked to say that 90 is like... really easy to get. But then again, some say that 98 is pretty easy as well, so yeah...

a uai is meant to be a rank so it should be around 5000 but for some reason-i can't remember why,its uneven.i think the average in 2006 was 66

And the amount of people your competing with obviously varies from year to year. It doesn't mean that to get in the 99+ UAI, you need to be in the top 1% of the state. It is dependant on the amount of people that leave in Year 10, according to the forums. You can also be in the top 2% and attain a 99 UAI ranking. But I'm too sure on why and how this works, but all I know is that it's due to the amount of Year 10 students leaving.

It's a grey area statement. In a perfect world, if all 60-70k students in the HSC tried, then 90+ would be hard to get . But we don't live in a perfect world, there will always be people who will not bother, so 90+ is pretty simple.

Even though UAI's are ranks, greater than 10% of people get at UAI of 90+. This is because your rank is against all of the students who sat the school certificate in your year, and some of them have dropped out by the time you get to HSC.

For example, if 70000 students sat the school cert, 7000 people should expect a UAI of over 90. Lets say 20000 drop out before the HSC and there are 50000 doing the HSC. There will still be 7000 people who get over 90, so that is about 14% rather than 10%.

At some schools there are like 3 people that do the HSC. The average amount of students in year 12 for NSW schools would be about 100ish I reckon.

Firstly, some schools have a range from 5-200 students (my school only has 159).

There are more than 600 schools, as some of the schools in my local area weren't even added to the ranking list.

90UAI is not top 10%, more like 11-12%

For your information, 90 UAI is approximately equal to top 16.5% of the state. I got this info from the following website:

So it's reliable.

And on the issue of whether 90 UAI being easy to get or hard to get, I would briefly say that it really depends on individuals. For some, 90 would be easy, for others it takes every effort.
