I am currently undertaking preliminary study...
The only mathematics involved is to do with the mole as well as redox equations.

Just wondering how heavy is the maths in chem next year?

I wouldn't believe it to be anything hard. Probably similar to Prelim

What maths do you do?

If General, there may be a few things getting used to - like logs.
If 2u or higher, you're fine.

The maths is secondary, there's not a lot of maths. It's mostly content, but there is a portion of maths which - if you take at a high enough level - is just so easy you don't even really consider it separately anymore.

i do 2u maths, and in all honesty doing the question is easy it's just understanding what to do. Having trouble getting my head around the concept of mole.

Chem isn't a mathematical course. So it shouldn't test mathematical ability

Mole is just a unit for number of atoms, isn't it?

THe only maths in chemistry is basically rearranging equations, substituting into equations and putting it correctly into the calculator...
That is probably the hardest maths... you need about year 9 maths knowledge to learn the maths in hsc chem

Oh I don't think so, I mean... sure, most maths in Chemistry is easy enough. But logs are a new concept which is a much higher level than year 9.

You don't even need to understand logs to find the pH of something. It's basically one small, easy to remember formula that you substitute numbers into.

Yes, and how many of us here go to James Ruse?

Arguable, but understanding the formula helps better understanding - in a way, and sometimes.

At the very least, just know how to rearrange equations and use a calculator.

If you're doing general, or no Maths then it's a lot of Maths.

Otherwise you should be fine.

HSC Sciences were designed such that somebody not even doing any Maths can still take the subject.
