I'm on Telstra 3GB Residential... I only get 3GB per month of data allowance (this includes uploads, excess data = more $$$ for Telstra, but you're not capped speed-wise).

I don't download things directly to my disks, if that's what you're thinking.

ie from the Internet to my primary storage devices :)

fxping, mates on adsl (further fxp/xfers), LANs, trading HDs, etc.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Technically, if I wanted to download a 700MB movie?

Say at 250KB/s
1MB every 4 seconds
700MB in 2800 seconds

2800 seconds = ~47 minutes

Average movie goes for about 1.5 to 2 hours

Unless, of course, it's 2 CDs or ~1.4GB
Which would mean it takes about 1hour, 20 mins for 1.4GB

(and of course, it will kill my internet usage and therefore I'll stop using the Internet for a few weeks so I don't go over 3GB per month)

:)

Ragerunner :p

I don't pay for the bill, so it's "free" Internet for me (older brother pays for it).

I should tell him to move to adsl, since we've been on the same ISP, same plan since 1999 now.

:(

10Mbit line capacity on Telstra BigPond Broadband Cable

Maximum line throughput of about 1MB/s

It would, theoretically, take 700 seconds, or just under 12 minutes for a complete 700MB film (say 48*15MB)

That is, in an ideal world :)

Most bredbandsbolaget.se (bbb.se) cable connections (wonder what these are used for?) in Sweden/Euro are 10mbit ;)

:whistles:

I'm surprised people are still with telstra.

Especially those whose contract has run out.

My contract ran out in 2001 (18 month since 1999) - Year 10

I've been with them for an additional 2 years (could have gone on another 24 month contract, but who cares).

D'oh!

Also, the more free space you have, usually the faster things run.
Don't forget defragging :D

You didn't have much free space to begin with:). Your operating system fills up a few gigabytes anyway:).
