I worked out what you can do.
Step 1: Get DOTA, and become good.
Step 2: Get a laptop
Step 3: Play DOTA during lectures (works better if ur sitting in front of masses of asian people)
Step 4: Time how long it takes to make friends (should be <1min).
Step 5: ?????
Step 6: Profit.
That only really works if you do commerce or engineering.
It's also lame. Really lame. As in its so lame, that the only people you'll be making friends with are other lame people. Other lame people who are still playing the same lame Warcraft 3 Mod that came out nearly 6 years ago. It took me 3 months until I got sick of how lame it was.
To me, DoTA is like a poor Asian kid's game. As in they're too Asian to buy the original copy so they just download it online, crack it and play it with their other tight-ass Asian friends who also downloaded and cracked it. In addition, DoTA isn't even a game in itself, its just a mod? There have been so many numerous games over the years that have come out and yet Asians still want to play DoTA. Why? There is only so much fun that can be derived from a concept of "Level up and overrun the other team's base".
Still, if that's your idea of making friends, so be it....
