Hey Sy123, many of your questions are unsolved so is it possible for you to post a solution when no one can solve the question?
I guess Latex is too slow and inefficient for many people (including myself) so they just use pen and paper. Nice questions though! Keep posting

$v) Hence prove that$

$F_k = \frac{1}{\sqrt{5}} \left ( \left(\frac{1+\sqrt{5}}{2} \right )^k - \left (\frac{1-\sqrt{5}}{2} \right )^k \right ) \ \ \ \fbox{2}$

Differentiate: (skipping the grunt work)

$1+2z+3z^2+ \dots + nz^{n-1} = \frac{nz^{n+1}-(n+1)z^n+1}{(1-z)^2}$

$$ii) Let n go to infinity, we are already given that$ \ |z| < 1$

So therefore anything z^n or something will converge to zero (even with the (n+1) coefficient)
After we do that we also multiply by z, so to get:

$\therefore \ \ \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} = \frac{z}{(1-z)^2}$

$$iii)$ \ \ T(z) = z + \sum_{k=2}^{\infty} T_k z^k = z+ \sum_{k=2}^{\infty} kz^k + \sum_{k=2}^{\infty} T_{k-1}z^k$

via the recurrence relation, then we do this:

$T(z) = \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} kz^k + z \sum_{k=2}^{\infty} T_{k-1}z^{k-1}$

$T(z) = \frac{z}{(1-z)^2} + zT(z)$

$\therefore \ \ T(z) = \frac{z}{(1-z)^3}$

The Sydney Grammar one was about the Chebyshev polynomials

I modified their method to find an expression for Fibonacci.

EDIT: I would do the same for the Triangular number question but there is no point considering we already know that T_k=k/2 (k+1)

There is a typo in my question, where it used to be:

$\frac{-z}{z^2+z+1}$

should be:

$\frac{-z}{z^2+z-1}$

Are you sure the result is correct?

(Im assuming the last term is cos(2^n pi)/(2^n-1)

Yes the result is correct and I edited the post.
Hint: multiply the left side by: $sin\frac{2\pi }{2^{n}-1}$

Wait so is the result:

$\cos{\frac{2\pi}{2^n-1}} \cdot \cos \frac{4\pi}{2^n-1} \cdot \dots \cos \frac{2^n \pi}{2^n-1} = \frac{1}{2^n}$

Now:

$\frac{2\pi}{2^n-1} = \frac{2^{n+1}\pi}{2^n-1} -2\pi$

Sub this into the last sine part:

$\frac{\sin(\frac{2^{n+1}\pi}{2^n-1}-2\pi)}{\sin \frac{2^{n+1}\pi}{2^n-1}}$

$=\frac{\sin 2^{n+1}/(2^-1) \cos 2\pi - \sin 2\pi \cos 2^{n+1}/(2^n-1)}{\sin 2^{n+1}/(2^n-1)} = 1$

$\therefore \frac{1}{2^n} = \cos \frac{2\pi}{2^n-1} \cdot \cos \frac{4\pi}{2^n-1} \cdot \dots \cdot \cos \frac{2^n}{2^n-1}$

Nice proof but it can be done in 3 lines

Ah yes I see it, my proof was just a roundabout way to essentially the same thing

(except yours goes backwards and mine forward)
