Re: HSC 2014 2U Marathon

(If you're a 4U student, please refrain from answering questions in this thread, instead try to give questions)
i) For Linear functions, trapezoid rule
ii) simpsons rule

reasoning: trapezoid rule works in a way that it seperates the function into different shapes with a line at the end (not at the x axis). simpsons rule is similar, except at the end of the shape its curved, similar to a parabola.

bump, was going to generalise the question but that's a bit too harsh

i) x=1/2, y=-1, z=1/2

ii) from part i), a=1/2, b=-1, c=1/2
It's the same question but different smell.

iii) ln(2/3)

Whoops replace 1/2(x+3) with 1/2ln(x+3) in the second line

Not a hard question but a good question to improve your skills with fractions and selection.

Not a hard question but a good question to improve your skills with fractions and selection.

cbb typing all the working, but with expanding, seperating the numbers you get something like:
1+(3-2x)/(x-1)^2 --> 1-(2x-2)/(x-2)^2+1/(x-1)^2 --> 1-2(1/x-1)+(x-1)^-2
through integrating normally x-2ln(x-1)-(x-1)^-1 and then you sub in x = 10 and 2 for the integral limits and times everything by pi and you get pi(80/9 - ln81)

I've done this question before, is it from a James Ruse or CSSA trial?

Find first term by substituting 1. Then find the last term by substituting 63. Apply to the sum of an AP formula n/2 (a + l) wooo

are you sure it is an arithmetic sequence?
