It depends on the information that you received from WSU. Did the university send you an email about your offer? If so, what information relative to your offer did it include?

Since you would still need to complete the HSC, I'm not entirely sure whether that means you can do something about the offer you received (i.e. accept/disregard it) right now or whether you would subsequently receive an actual offer that you can accept or disregard upon completion of your HSC.
If you get a true reward offer in the emails it would say that no action is required until december the 17th when the actual offer are out. This date coincides with the atar being released marking an end to your hsc. Since things have changed, i have no idea

Yeah that makes sense because it wouldn't make sense that a student is given the ability to accept their offer now if the scheme states they need to complete their HSC prior. I believe that to adjust to the changes, one of the options WSU has is to delay their offers accordingly.

from my understanding, they’re postponing it so that every year 12 student is vaxxed, not until the cases go down. but what about family members that can’t be vaxxed? i know i’m personally worried about some family members. i don’t want to pass covid onto them, just cause of the hsc :/
this whole plan is just disturbing, complete lack of regard for safety.

If you get vaccinated you shouldn't carry a large load of the virus, am I wrong? What's the point of the vaccine then?

The point of the vaccine is that you dont get sick and die. You can still spread it potentially but because you have reduced symptoms it is harder to spread.

As specificagent1 said, it significantly reduces the risk of a serious case that might require hospitalisation, as well as reducing the rate of either symptomatic or asymptomatic mild cases.

But you aren't entirely correct, the current data suggests that viral load is basically the same for breakthrough cases as it is for unvaccinated people. But it drops much faster for vaccinated people so you are contagious for less time, and the R_eff is therefore decreased from the combination of those factors.

The dates announced basically line up with the time we will likely be hitting 70% vaccinations rates and probably see restrictions reduced.

Vaccines contains weakened pathogens in this case covid-19. Your body internally fights these pathogens and wins (because the pathogen is weakened). In doing so, your body forms antibodies that stay within your immune system. These antibodies kind of like an immunity shield against covid. So if you do catch it again, your body is already prepared. I'm pretty sure that's how vaccines work.

the vaccine makes the inoculated person immune only. Obviously you won't get sick as your body has a memory of the pathogen
doesn't mean that you can't carry the pathogen still and spread it to others
thats why cloud_berry is right; their plan is not well-thought out at all lmao

HSC pushed back to 9th of November.
I want to get an idea from everyone, do we prefer HSC canceled or pushed back for another month?
if the HSC was cancelled that would take a lot of pressure off me, and not affect me since I'm not actually planning on going to uni haha

just noticed that this post has been pinned. I'll endeavour to keep this post updated with any changes to the HSC, school or by UAC but I wont be updating it on any specific changes by specific unis, only changes that are across the range

Earlier reports:

"Thousands of school students in New South Wales are reportedly set to return to their desks in October to face delayed final-year exams which will now be held in November."

"The NSW crisis cabinet is understood to have considered scrapping the vital exams entirely this year because study and teaching has been thrown into chaos by lockdown. But the resultant potential mental health damage was considered too great and the October return and November HSC plan was reportedly approved instead."

"As numbers continue to rise, plans have also been considered to restrict face to face exams to areas where Covid cases are low, according to The Guardian. However this appears to have been dismissed for unfairly punishing students in the 12 local government areas of concern in Sydney's west and south-west. The crisis cabinet has also reportedly considered limiting HSC exams to key subjects like English and maths"
