Is it any good at UNSW compared with other unis? Also are job opportunities demanding compared with actuarial? I'm considering this as a second major, and also if I fail actuarial :L

2. try the introductory course in 1 year, in 2nd year you pick your majors

3. i found it bland and it was mostly stating the obvious and also about telling you how in an organization people need to communicate and crap

much better at UNSW than USYD im guessing

the courses at usyd are more IR based I find, and not very specific to different parts of the HR field which is a shame :(

but seriously OP go to UNSW, the subjects seem way better and more HR specific, less overly-argumentative north shore elitists as well

well I'll probably stick with my current plan. ACTL + HRM + Chinese

I was told that people really only found UNSW MGMT1101 to be bad, apart from that management aint so bad.

1. Sure, but there are also male teachers out there as well as male nurses. Who cares? I guess if OP is a guy, it's great for meeting women if he is straight.

2. Yep, true.

3. Everything is easy in first year.

Bumping a long dead thread, but the job prospects in HR are very good, but breaking into the sector is difficult. Whilst there are a few graduate programs for HR, the spots offered are quite limited (most businesses have one or two spots on offer for a HR graduate), so you would need to look for entry level positions. The issue with HR though is that it is a circular type industry whereby most "entry level" roles require experience of some sort. However, quite a few only require admin experience, so anyone hoping to break into the industry should try admin roles whilst in uni to gain the necessary experience.

So getting into HR is going to require you to be proactive during university - simply getting a degree isnt really enough to enable you to break into the sector immediately after graduation. You need to focus on gaining relevant experience during uni so that you have a much higher chance of getting into the field after uni.

In terms of being gender specific, HR is definitely a field dominated by women - I'd say around 80% of HR practitioners are women. This seems to be changing though, because HR is moving away from being fuzzy and psychological to having a much stronger "business partner" focus, which does seem to be more attractive to guys.
