I have a few questions regarding medicine at UNSW:
1. Should I start preparing for the UCAT right now?
2. What can I start doing that will help me maximise my chances.
3. Does UNSW look at your extra curriculars when you apply?

I had some friends who studied for the UCAT a few months before the actual test and unfortunately they did not get the best marks. So i recomend starting early, BUT do not let the time you spend on UCAT practice take time away from your other subjects. As UNSW does tend to look at your Year 11 grades for early entry and med pathway (only 10 spots). And I believe you must write a personal statement, in which you could talk about your extra circuriculum activities and passion.

Hi! As a UNSW Medical student I'd be happy to help you.

1. I'm assuming you're in Yr 11 now. This would be an appropriate time to start preparation.

2. ATAR is way more important than your UCAT as you can always retake the UCAT afterwards. A stronger focus towards the HSC would likely be more beneficial. You'd essentially need a 99.7 ATAR for UNSW Med.

3. Not really? When you apply in Yr 12 you'll submit a MAP. You can tell them about your extra-curriculars there. I'm sure they're looking for well-rounded students too so I'd highly recommend getting stuck into a hobby you like.

Message me if you'd like me to guide you for the UCAT and good luck!
