ypou can mention these for Egypt, and get marks for them
I know Callender is a very credited historian and writer
Demovic is international egyptologist so she is very valid even if her book "NEW KINGDOM EGYPT" seems a bit childish, but the quotes she uses in her book are excellent!! Ive researched her, she is an egyptologist
Hornung has a quick concise book on New Kingdom
Cyril Aldred "the egyptians"
Just read these books, dont use Bradley, only if you get desperate
Use videos also with Zani Hawass and J.Ray

you are a total reject if you just name drop.
Markers will realise how lazy you are and lose any positive impression they may have had.

Hawass is a terrible person to quote, as he doubles as egypt's tourism minister. And Bradley is not bad to quote as the books are researched well. Just because they aren't a historian doesn't mean you can't quote them- Bradley does great study of other sources, so is actually a good person to quote.

the point of this exercise is to drop names so that people know where to go so they can quote the people in the HSC.

Name dropping in this forum is very different to name dropping in the HSC.

Note: he said "read these books", not "drop these names"

Thanks classic chic, Im only trying to drop names so people could read the books. Theyre short, easy and readable texts youll get credited for without having t read a whole book like Gardiner
ALSO PLEASE in my OPINION, DO NOT USE GARDINER, he is a stupidconservative historian who believes so many things that have been contradicted by modern sources, eg he think Hatshepsut did not have any military campaigns?!?!!??!

You do not refer to secondary sources just to "name drop". That scores no marks at all. You refer to them for some interpretation they have made that supports or qualifies or contrasts with or illuminates in some way the line of argument you are presenting in your essay to answer the set question. That is the only value or point they have.

On that basis, I am unaware of any interpretation at all that Bradley is known for. Sure you can quote her & you won't lose marks. You won't gain marks either, so you are just wasting your time. There are far better secondary sources than Bradley on practically any point: search them out & learn them so you can use them effectively in an HSC answer.

but thats exactly why its good to quote gardiner! u put discuss him with ppl like steindorff and seele and then contrast them with ppl like callender. u can discuss how their opinions were valid considering the amount of evidence they had available at the time and then add how with the rise of new evidence has come new, more fuller theories etc.

in Spartan Society to the Battle of leuctra i used:-

Pamela Bradley
Gay Callendar
(dunno first name) Hennesy
Plutarch (i think)
Xenophon (through Braadley or Hennesy)

Athenian society 399-445 (Athenian Empire - Delian League)

Bradley
hennesy
Plutarch
Xenophon (through bradley or hennesy)
Hout

Athenian Society 435-end of Pelloponnesian Wars - 465 maybe??)

Bradley
Hennesy
Thucydides (mainly) through Rex Werners translation

Xerxes

Aeschylus ('the persians') - philip Vellacout
Bradley
Hennessy

it is incomplete and obviously my class is using bradley and henessy as major texts, but my teacher said as a word of advice, quote bradly on her ideas, but try and find the original source she uses and quote from it... try it it works...]

Bradley is NOT a real historian. She's writing a text book for the HSC, ie you can quote her because she collects a lot of information and contrasts their ideas.

Good people to quote are, I think, * indicates you could actually read them easily
Gardiner
Breasted if it's on any kind of writen source
*Assman if it's Akhenaten
*Aldred
Redford
*Kemp

Don't quote Lawless, 'cos you're likely to forget a bit and make the rest of the quotation up, where she'll be marking your paper and yell out "I did not say that!"

Honestly,
IT DOESNT MATTER WHO YOU QUOTE!! THAT ISNT THE POINT OF THE SUBJECT! AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A VARIETY OF SOURCES, THROWING BRADLEY IN THERE WONT MATTER!
Jeez, i am so sick of people worrying about stuff like that
really it DOESNT matter

That's only a half truth. If you just shove names in anywhere then they think it's wank, but if you put in quotation marks (even around the most random arguments) and put a historian's name in parentheses after it, then they think you've researched and are impressed. Of course, it depends on how crazy the stuff you're 'quoting' is, and how well the markers know the topic, but it can work really well for you. Markers love seeing historical argument.

Well, it worked for me anyway. I don't know if it was just that we did Middle Kingdom Egypt and no markers know it because it's so obscure, but I ended up getting 97 for Ancient.

Yeh, well I meant that if you only name drop, they won't like it, especially if it's somewhere that doesn't really matter. But yes, we both did well, so who cares now:p On to uni and life
