isos = bin/cue or other cd image file types (.iso, .ccd, and so on), but typically they are binary files with a cuesheet (table of contents). in rare cases they are .iso files which are also cd image files, that is the contents of a cd, in one file, ready to be written to cd (duplicated/burned).
Sorry Huy but that went straight over my head. Thank you anyway:).

basically, they are like a whole cd on the net to be downloaded. not a copy n paste, but the whole cd, in software form.

Correct :)

You also have rips, which are 'partial isos' if you can call it that.

Full iso = complete CD image, nothing missing, final "store" copy, nothing is missing and everything is there.

Rip = 'working' copy of something, but it might have missing sounds, replaced with other sounds, missing video and animations, clips, but essentially the files are smaller (of course) and "it works" if you want to play it, use it, etc.

typically they are 2.88MB times however number of rars it takes to compress it, for example 2.88MB x 5 or whatever :)

Glad to help you out,

Don't worry about the (oftentimes steep) learning curve, but you will get there in time, just hang in there and read a lot, try to understand the way things work, why they work, and most importantly: keep up to date with technology... because if you miss out on reading something, or hearing/knowing something, you'll be in the dark and you'll feel left out in a sense, ehhe :)

but dont worry, in time you'll know enough to answer other people's questions/concerns, problems and queries :)

My 1337th post goes to this IRC quote that has very little to do with this thread topic.

<NES> lol
<NES> I download something from Napster
<NES> And the same guy I downloaded it from starts downloading it from me when I'm done
<NES> I message him and say "What are you doing? I just got that from you"
<NES> "getting my song back fucker"

There are a lot of Open Source alternatives, but they aren't perfect.

Usually they come with technical documentation and often you'll find people are reluctant to help you by saying thing such as "RTFM" (Read The Fecking Manual), and "STFW" (Search the Fecking Web) and things along those lines. Which is often disheartening. The manuals (or man pages) if you use Linux/Unix etc, are often written from the view point of "Everyone has the same level of knowledge as I do, there is no such thing as beginners." Which may be flattering, but very misguided.

However, most pirated software comes without documentation at all. Though, if it's popular, often documentation isn't needed.

If pirating continues we can see a rise in software prices, which means a loss of customers, which means more piracy, which may eventually drive the developers to bankruptancy, or to develop as a 'side-job' while they have a career in another pathway. Though I don't see this happening to companies such as Microsoft and other large software companies (such as Macromedia and Sun), it <b>could</b> happen to the smaller companies.
