hmm ok ... so i have this computer downstairs, and then a new one up in my room. This computer has cable interwebz on it at the moment (just like through a normal cable modem) so i thought it would be easy to just ring telstra and say to do the same sort of thing for the new computer :\ but i didnt think it would just be the same charge as this for 2 computers. the woman on the phone was like, if you can network them we dont care, but we dont support it...

i dont really want a wireless network with all the dropping out, so what must i do to get teh internetz upstairs to my computer from this computer?

i really have no idea  <3

if you don't mind using AdHoc wireless (just a mode of communication computer-to-computer) you should go with that since it's the cheapest.

With AdHoc mode each computer has a wireless card, not necessary to purchase a router, hence cheaper.

Yep it's quite easy to set up methodically:

purchase 2 x Wireless PCI Adapter

install the software/drivers and turn off both computers

open the computer cases

remove the metal panel at the back so you can have that slot thing

insert a card to each computer, don't be too forceful or you may break something

power up a computer (the upstairs one) while also connected to the cable modem

do all of them "Add New Hardware" crap

open network connections, right click Local Area Network>Properties

go to Advanced tab> allow Internet Connection Sharing all ticked>Settings...

tick all the Services in there, click ok, ok

* From network connections, right click Wireless Network Connection>Properties

go to Wireless Network tab>Add a network> type in a unique name

untick "The key is pr...automatically" > type in a 5 letter word in there as password

tick "This is a computer-to-computer adhoc network...">click OK

click advanced>select "computer-to-computer adhoc...">click ok,ok

go to the other computer and repeat the steps from * (also turning the computer on and add new hardware thingo)

be sure you enter the same network key & configure your upstairs computer's firewall to allow ICS (internet connection sharing)
