If you were ranked 7th internally in English but did shit in the actual English hsc would you get the averaged mark from the person who did the 7th best in the English hsc) or does this system only apply if you're ranked top 3 or top 5 internally?

pretty sure:

7th internally would mean you get the 7th highest mark, of your cohort, in the HSC exam

okay, so what i want to know is when does the importance of the ranking stop.. i.e. if you're ranked 45th internally, you wouldn't get the 45th highest mark in hsc, right?

Your HSC mark is the average of you assessment mark and exam mark. The exam mark is whatever you get in the exam, it's not changed. The assessment mark is moderated because different schools have different assessments and teachers.

The person that ranks 1st gets the highest exam mark as their assessment mark and usually the person ranked last gets the lowest exam mark as their assessment mark. Everyone else goes in between.

i would think that 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc would get the respective exam marks, ie, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th highest exam marks, as their assessment mark, to which this mark and their own exam marks are averaged to give your hsc mark... yet i heard somewhere that relative gaps play a certain role ... i dont know, correct me if im wrong

yeah, i'm trying to find out the like cutoff or whatever it's called of internal rankings.. i.e. if you ranked 14th internally but didn't do as good in HSC, would you still get the 14th HSC mark moderated for you, or does this system stop at like top 10 rankings or whatever:confused:

Outside of the top and usually the bottom marks the rest of the moderated marks do not necessarily match the exam marks.

They take into account the relative differences between the students sent in by the school as well.
