Careers advisor at school won't answer "stupid questions"... I'm just really confused about what the point of paying for UAC is when you can apply to universities directly. Does it give you a better chance of being accepted? Are you allowed to apply to a university through UAC if you've already applied directly, for the same or a different course? Is there a limit to how many universities you can apply to in general? Is it even worth it paying for UAC?

Most mainstream universities can only be applied to via UAC (e.g. UNSW, USYD, uts etc). So if you want to go there, you MUST pay the UAC fee and do the application there.

However, some universities only admit students directly on their website +interview (e.g. Notre dame uni).

And there are some who do both (ACU, western syd).

At the end of the day, it depends on what uni you wanna go to. UAC early application fee costs, like $75? Through UAC, you get 5 preferences (courses). And yes, you can apply to a uni both through UAC and directly.
