Hey Peeps

Is the year 11 prelim course tested in year 12 or hsc?
Does it vary for different subjects?

Eg I think Maths is tested. But what about other subjects?
The main subjects I'm after are:
Ext math, chem, eco, business and adv english.

Cheers

For the vast majority of subjects, Prelim is designed to build your skills and give you a foundation for the HSC, but there are very few subjects where content solely covered in Prelim is actually assessed directly (maths being one).

well for my subjects:
4u maths there is no prelim course
geo prelim is completely separate EXCEPT skills from prelim and junior school carry through to hsc
3u maths prelim is tested equally with hsc
chem some concepts like moles and intermolecular forces are required for the hsc
english nothing from prelim is tested in hsc

I'm doing 2 unit maths, and I can say that you need to thoroughly know your Prelim work for it. I've done the year 12 part of my course and attempted past papers but I couldn't solve a few questions because of my weak foundation from year 11. Chemistry isn't tested TOO much but you should know the solubility rules etc.

Do you need to know the solubility rules off by heart? o_O

What about Business and Economics?

Yeah, don't you figure out what state something will be by knowing the solubility rules?

No but the content builds the foundation to understand the harder stuff in the hsc, so you should have a good understanding of it

I studied the stuff taught in the actual year 12 course, year 11 information was mostly building to year 12 and the important stuff was actually taught in year 12. It may depend on the subject though.

About 15% of prelim principles in the sciences are examinable . These questions are usually the hardest and require a lot of thought and manupulation.

E.g. finding the radius of an electron (it was in one of the MC in NEAP trials.)

Well I did a physics trial paper from sydney girls I think and it had a sunspot question at the end, which is part of prelim physics.

Only for maths, everything else is year 12 only but assumed knowledge means that you should be carrying over the skills from year 11, i.e. chemical equations from year 11 chemistry, essay writing skills from histories etc etc.
