iTunes 5 is an evil program.

Why?
  • It's 33mb
  • The apple servers where painfully slow
  • It installed awful QuickTime 7 which makes itself start up with windows
  • I had to re-import all my music
  • It stuffed up all my play lists. When your iTunes library is huge you (well at least I do) depend on play lists to find things.
  • It called your mother an abuser of illegal substances!

So in conclusion if you can avoid it, don't upgrade if any of the above sound like they might annoy you. I'm now going to have to find the time to reorganise 23 GB of music.

Sigh.

It downloaded in 3 minutes for me.

All 40GB of my music was instatly there (It didnt reimport it)

All my playlists were there.

Absoultely no problems.

Not much difference except for the look.

Good point, but what else would I need other than to chuck songs into my iPod?

Why wouldn't you be bothered to update? It seems that this new release is worth the download, considering the changes to UI.

And I bet there's a few performance enhancements there too.

hmm...

Nothing wrong with starting up quicktime at start up. What's people's obsessions with have nothing load at startup then things crawl when your acctually using the conputer.

I use it dispite not having an iPod and haven't had any problems with it. My library is pretty big ~6000 songs and I didn't have to re-import.

New one is just a more streamlined look with better search and it shows both artist and song now, lol.

I'm still running 4.8. Haven't had a need to upgrade yet - as Dreamerish said, I only use it for transferring new songs to my Ipod or changing playlists, which isn't very often.

It installs something called 'Bonjour Service' from Apple...not sure why I'd need it but..

Apple site somewhere said:
Bonjour for Windows License Agreement

Bonjour is Apple's multi-platform, industry-standard, Zero-Configuration Networking solution. Bonjour lets you create an instant network of computers and smart devices just by getting them connected to each other.

With Bonjour for Windows, you can easily network Windows computers to an existing network or create instant networks of multiple devices without any additional network configuration.
Edit: Oh and I didn't have to reimport anything and didn't lose any playlists.

Other then the fact that is makes the already lengthy start-up process (anti-virus, firewall, etc) longer. I also see no reason for the program to be running all the time and consuming resources if I'm not going to use it.

Doesn't take that long to download on adsl... <5 min for me.
And because you're on ADSL everyone else is too? I'm not attacking anyone but I really hate it when one person downloads something really fast on their broadband connection and then has a go at people who are on dial-up.
