Hey year 11! i'm in year 12 and i'm just doing the HSC now. your journeys area of study is really good - its not as slippery as change is/was. we had a look at your stimulus booklet and its really good. the visual text is awesome, and pretty easy for all the focus areas of journeys. don't forget that for the stimulus booklet you only have to use two techniques as to how it deals with journeys. and for those poor unfortunate souls who also have to do king lear and frontline, i have really good notes on both that i would be happy to send you if you email me and ask.
good luck for the coming year

for those who do visual arts, the visual is actually quite easy :D
at the moment we're just writing about imaginitive journeys.. we have to choose a text for ourselves, then explain how it shows journey, im thinking of doing a drawing, or a song or something, what u guys think?

im pretty confused about how english works for the HSC. i got this shit english teacher for yr 12 and im so annoyed! she doesn't know anything and has not told us anything about how the HSC works...could someone please explain , i dont really understand all these module stuff and when people talk about 'in the wild' 'powerplay' etc what are they? does everyone have to do it?

all i know is that there are 2 papers, one is aos-the journey <-- we need to find textx for it or school gives it to us? its all a bit blurry, and the 2nd one is modules-which i really dont get
thanks in advance...

ok...you're doing advanced english right?
everybody who does standard or advanced english does the aos (journey). there are 3 focuses within the aos - physical journeys, inner journeys and imaginative journeys. there are different prescribed texts for each focus. you only study one focus, and one prescribed text. your school normally picks both of these. in addition to this you study the journeys stimulus booklet (which is distributed to every hsc student in the state), and you need to independently find at least 2 texts which relate to your focus. the aos is what is examined in the first hsc english paper.

in addition to this you have to study 3 separate modules for advanced english. these are:
module a - comparative study of texts and contexts
module b - critical study of text
module c - representation and text (i think)
there are different electives within these modules and different prescribed texts for each elective. you only study one elective for each module. in the wild is your elective for module a (are you doing brave new world and bladerunner?). powerplay is your elective for module c (you might be doing julius caesar or antony and cleopatra or maybe something else..) there are no electives for mod b. you study 2 prescribed texts for module a, 1 for b and one for c (although these may be sets of texts like a collection of speeches or poems).
for module c you also need at least 2 other texts which relate to the module (like you do for aos). you need to find these yourself.
the modules paper is the second english paper. you will need to write one response for each module.

hope this helps!! :D
