Not entirely sure if it meets your rigorous hardware specification needs, but I've recently come by a HP pavilion zv5200, which I've found to be, for want of a more eloquent phrase, fucking fantastic. Previously I've avoided HP gear due to bad experiences with various bits and pieces of theirs, but this has definitely changed my mind.

It's a very capable gaming machine, and I've been playing a good bit of Doom 3, as well as World of Warcraft, etc, on it. The performance is pretty incredible, especially considering it's something I can carry around with me with such ease. Also has built-in wireless, etc, and so far I haven't found anything I can't do with it (I've barely touched the desktop machines here since getting it). The screen has the anti-glare coating and is highly viewable in any environments, which I assume is what the "Shiny screen" you require is? It's also a very comfortable 15" screen size, so extended use isn't a drama. Built in DVD, widescreen format screen, etc, also makes it quite acceptable for movies (Though not in comparison to a large TV;) )

My particular model was picked up rather a good bit cheaper than the price range you're looking at though, and doesn't match some of the specs which you "require" (In quotes because your requirements seem somewhat... strange, especially the must look cool one). That said, perhaps you could look at other gear in the line and find one that matches what you're after a bit more closely, if they're anything like this then I doubt you could go wrong.

To be clear, I'm not recommending this specific laptop, I'm just saying that if you look around the HP line I daresay you'll find something that rocks your socks off, and given my experience with this one, at this point in time I'd definitely recommend something along these lines. :)

Of course, it beats playing marbles when you're not near a desktop machine, or do you propose that people pack up their desktop pcs and carry them around on their backs? No, it's not the best gaming system around, but that's not why anyone buys a laptop in the first place, it's a happy bonus.

As for short battery life, how long does your fucking magic desktop machine last without being plugged in? Mmm, thought so.

toshiba have manufactured a battery that recharges from drained to 80% in 1 minute.
it also loses a lot less battery life over it's usefulness time.
