Guys/Girls,
I've been reading through this thread and I could post back a lot of replies on what has been said here but I'll just try to keep it short in quick
I may have said this before... this sorta extends off RooRaa
If you are worried about being lonely in o-week I recommend you to join a campus tour group. Yellow shirts will be running these, and will be running games and socialising sessions. If you have a faculty lecture you are attending, at the end of the faculty lecture there should be campus tour groups that start from there. This way, you will also be allocated to groups of people who study same topics - which means in most cases, you can then can relate to them since they are studying what you are
In terms of the 'geek' perception - i don't think that attending a LAN party is lame at all - I think if you are enjoying an activity or game with other people and joined a society for that, there isn't much difference between that, or a non computer game based society. As long as you have fun, and can relate to people at the same time, thats all you need! And if you choose to join different clubs to diversify, so be it.
More information, go to the website, and if you got any more questions post them on the oweek forum. Replies are very quick, and there are more than 130 Yellow Shirts to help you out with your questions.
See my signature for more details about o-week, and hopefully I'll see you there
