Gday,

I have been really lacking energy this term and I've gotten myself out of my study habbits and into a state of "sloth" as my older sister says.
Its the last week of term two, Only one more term and I'm in year 12.
I have five assingnments that are due right after the holidays plus end of year exams. I havn't started a single assignment.
At the beginning of the year I was balancing school, social life and work so well, and now it seems I've come crashing down right when I need to get my butt into gear.

Has anyone else got end of term slothness? Or has anyone got a cure for it?
Any advice would be awesome.

Have you heard of a term called "HSC life-cycle"? According to this, you currently belong to the burnt-out stage along with 99% of Preliminary students.

I will be honest with you. It is normal to feel burnt out at the end of the term. It has been a long & tedious term and your body probably requires a break. As they say, "end of the one journey is the beginning of the other". Your journey of hardships, difficulties, tears, sadness and deception is done, perhaps, it is time to herald a new journey that would abate all the pains that your body has been forced to experience in the past 10 weeks. If you body feels burnt out, follow the flow. Give yourself a break. However, don't lose the sight of your ultimate goal - getting 100 UAI. During your break, plan ahead. Take a short break for a week and during this week prepare for the 2nd week where you will activate your body for extreme action. Good luck.

By the way, I do Maths when I feel burnt out. It helps me. (I just did 6 hours of Maths, I feel fresh now). Do something fun! I <3 maths:uhhuh:

Yeah, I'm pretty burnt out at the moment as well (just finished some exams), so it isn't really just you. Used up basically all my energy this past week, managed to get through with energy drinks. Not a good idea though. :p

I'm trying to get some rest over the holidays and revise the content for all my subjects, it should work. :)

My Economics class was talking about this in our double period today. We had come to the conclusion that we just want to finish now and don't care what results we get. We should get a Cadetship/Traineeship or Apprenticship.

So I'm not the only one? Last year for Maths, I used to try and do as much of my homework as possible. The unfinish work would be crammed into the last few days before an assessment or exam. Now I hardly ever do my homework, and catchup is never done. My ranks have really suffered and I don't even know if there's any chance of recovery :(

Is there any way of getting motivated? I don't think about goals or anything. At times I think, "whatever, I can fail the HSC I don't care..." I don't have any clue what I want to do after school... Is that normal at year 11?

I try to force myself to get motivated. It always works for me that way. I tend to look at newspaper articles that contain stories about success . I read them and every time I do, I write my goals on my whiteboard that always stand besides me. My whiteboard is huge so I can write a lot of encouraging piece of words down in there. I write things like "Don't worry, be happy! Year 11 means nothing compared to Year 12. Be relaxed and wait for the opportunities!!!". That motivates me sometimes. I also think of my role models who have done HSC in past or celebrities who overcame adversities.

I am a very jealous, competitive, determined person. If I want to achieve something, I will put my life on to it. So my personality helps. In conclusion, my whiteboard helps me heaps. It is my life-saver. Whenever I feel down I look at it. It has so many encouraging words.

By the way, my motto for this holiday is "Body & Brain" (a little bit of alliteration there). I made that motto just before the start of the holiday (last week). I also write things like "No game, no fastfood, nothing time-wasting, nothing unhealthy". I have decided to devote my whole holiday exercising, studying, socialising and some worthwhile activities.

EDIT: I also wrote "no BOS" but that's the only thing that I cannot do..

We are so similar...
But there is definately chance of recovery.
I too have no idea what to do after school.. and sometimes I feel utterly helpless and I just want to give up.

But I found support on here to be hopeful, my plan is to take a week off in the holidays and just take some time to refocus and get everything in perspective and really put in the effort the second week to get myself back on track.

Interesting... Would physically writing something down such as goals and stuff help? Even if it's not on a whiteboard and I don't see it everyday.

It works for me and that's what matters at times. :)

As I said, my personality is a driving force behind this (combined with all these whiteboard thing-y). I feel the incentives to perform well. Therefore, I work harder. Do what suits you.

Oh yeah, why don't you start doing some exercises? Or create a good habit? Make a goal! The reason why I wake up early is not necessarily to study. It is to become a person who follows his routine with persistency and consistency. Following my timetable allows me to become more organised and become a more persistent person.

So screwing up 60% on my internals... Am I stuffed? What if I start full studying now or in the holidays for my trials and then for the HSC? Is it still possible to get an alright mark so I wouldn't need to repeat?

I said I'd study really hard and push myself for my 30% assessment and I wasted the weekends and only studied the day before O_O AND applications of calculus t o the physical world is really killing me!

Would it be alright to focus on maths as much as I can this year and just try and get as high as I can for my preliminary subjects without stressing myself out?

i'm in the process of covering my household with post-it notes saying "98.4 +" :p

also...

i find reading past students' english stuff incredibly inspiring [provided that it got good marks.. with properly formed, engaging sentences.. and correct spelling -- it's "definitely" not "definately" -shudder-!

and when i dont wanna do maths homework...
i picture myself in 20 years time..
pasty, cellulite-laden with oily hair and some skin condition..
lyin' in a hammock
spelling words incorrectly
checking my myspace for the 7th time that day on my dell laptop with 256mb of RAM..
on vista..
in a hut
in the middle of nowhere
and my husband, cletus- who works at a petrol station
comes home from work, followed by the 17 kids
with names like penny-sue carter, kelsey-lee etc

and then i suddenly
love doing maths homework!!
