Hi guys
I want to transfer some files from my laptop to my PC without having to burn it all to a disc.

Is there a way I can do this? Do I need to go and buy some special cords or something? :uhoh:

Is there an easy way to set up a network?

Computer illiterate.

Buy a router and 2 network cards.

Or buy a wireless router and get 2 wireless cards.

Or buy a cross over cable and 2 network cards.

Unless your laptop and desktop have infrared, I'd recomend just going out and buying a USB storage device.

(You can get them for under 20 bucks now, and won't be anywhere near as complicated as hooking up a router....).

btw, correct me if i'm wrong but u can't transfer data between computers over a wireless network.

you could just alternatively plug in the network cable into laptop and computer and set up the network there.

Buy a portable hard drive. You can get them for about 90 - 500 AUD. Depending on size, brand etc but mainly size. Then plug it into your usb copy all your shit onto the portable HD and plug it into your PC and copy. Done.

You could get a USB stick but the biggest they come in atm is 16GB so it depends how big the things you want to transfer are?

Yeh you can, with shared folders. I've transferred stuff between the home comp and my lappy before. I forget what I did though  *helpful*

Buy a router, install the network cards.

Now heres the hard part.

Turn on the router, and plug in your modem. Turn on modem.

Plug in computers.

Log onto internet/share files/find porn.

It will be too complicated use a router and stuff. Just an USB memory stick will work fine. You could also buy a an infrared port but it works slower

buy a router they are getting cheaper now, then if your laptop does not already have wireless capabilities (which most newer ones do) buy a wireless card, follow the instructions on the router, and that way you can share internet connection, I have nothing saved on my laptop it is ALL on my PC's shared docs.

Yes you can.

If you want to copy data once, go a USB stick
if its going to be on a regular basis, go to the (minimal)trouble of setting up a network with a router
