yes but saying its the lesser of the 3 evils doesn't make it right or good....supercharged said:Singapore has the higest percentage rate of capital punishment per population in the world. The US has the highest incarceration rate in the world, with a prison population of 1.92 million out of the total population of 286 million. This works out a 0.686% incarceration rate. That is a far higher percentage rate than in China which has 1.3 billion population.
singapore has the highest rate of capital punishment but the society is very different from China... yes people have a lot of liberties removed but a lot of people are happy with it and they believe they are safer than people in China or the US or Indonesia... and i mean Chinese people living in Sinapore too who have migrated from China
And yes - i know this first hand as i have family in Singapore who have told me that this is their feelings on teh state of the country so its not some propaganda crap
Also, these countries have a greater percentage who are urban, industrialised etc... so its not as simple as looking at the % of people incacerated etc...
anyone see that doco called The Dying Rooms on the national georgaphic channel i think? i personally think taht a country that is too harsh in punsihing it's criminal eg Singapore is far better than a country that knowingly allows particularly female infanticide... yes they don't endorse taht people do it but they don't exactly condemn it either so its as good as....
I think the US and SIngapore's systems are screwy too... but you surely cannot say that leaving an infant child strapped into a bamboo rocker alone in a room with no food and water until they die surrounded by other children in the same condition is not worse than being too harsh on an individual who has convicted a crime?...
