My teacher told me that my mark in the half-yearlies 107/120 would be at least 96 in the HSC.

I had an internal average of 98% and thought i fucked up the external exam and still got 96. But i'm not exactly sure what my raw mark would have been coz i didnt add it up or anything, but i'd guess between 105-115

why not? my school won't drag me down much.
107/120 = 89.16... = 89%

7 scaling marks... that's too much
and if your school has the potential to drag you down then its definitely not a 96...
ofcourse it also depends on how the rest of the state goes =]

- I'd say you'd get a 90+ but you need to work harder to get over 95... question 10 is where people who know their stuff and people who don't get caught, so ace the 10's :)

no. Ace q.1 Its the easiest to ace, and you most likely wont get full marks because of nervousness or exam pressure.

Q1 was as bad as my Q10. I got 10/12 in both sections. 10/12 was the only double digit mark for Q10 in my class. Try to get the marks in the easy questions. You'll get more marks with less effort, in the end, thats all that matters. You're just trying to do better than everyone else.

lol take it from someone who got a state ranking. Ace question 10 in the HSC, all the smart people can easily go through q1, it's q10 which usually gets you a good ranking.

why get 12/12 in the last question in 20min, when you can get 12/12 in Q1 in 10 min? Marks are marks, in the same way an electron from sodium is the same as the electrons in chlorine.

Does anybody have a model for the aligned marks in 2U math?
Raw Mark - {depends on the difficulty of the exam + your ranking in comparison to the rest of the state } Say 98/ 92
Assesment Mark - {What your school gives you + what bos moderates in comparison to your raw mark} Say 97 / 88
Hsc Mark - Raw + Asses / 2 98 / 90

That is not a model for aligned mark. He was asking for something like:

  • 80/120 raw mark = 85 aligned mark (this is just an example. This is entirely inaccurate).

But you can easily lose marks in those questions if you finish it like in 3-5 minutes unless you are extremely efficient tester (of which I highly doubt).

What beenthere... is saying is that to differentiate yourself from the rest of the pack it is important to do well in the hard questions, not just the easy questions. Scaling is not linear, so when you get to the top end, a few extra raw marks can have a bigger effect on your aligned mark then a few extra marks around the average. Of course it is smart to try and get 12/12 in question 1, but dont give up on question 10 if you dont see the answer straight away and say 'oh well. not many people get question 12 anyway'.
