Don't be surprised if it never reopens.
I don't see it not reopening. The whole "don't let terrorists change your way of life" will probably keep that place open.

A sad day. Of course this occurs nearly every day in certain countries on the other side of the world, but of course Australia is more important.

Felt the Police Force/authorities could have dealt with this MUCH BETTER. All the retarded terrorist wanted was for an ISIS flag to be displayed and then he would release 1 hostage. He would release a further 5 if he could contact the PM. Why couldn't these conditions be met if the Police were actually concerned about the safety of the hostages first?

The Police force did a good job, but definitely not a great one by no means. 1 man with a shot gun was able to bring 100s and 100s and 100s of Police in all their divisions. 1 man? The Police basically stood there for 17 hours. Why couldn't they bring in an Islamic leader to have a conversation with the terrorist? The Australian Police definitely have some improvement to do. This could have ended with no deaths.

Because they'd get greedy, and want more shit. It also inspires others to do the same, as they believe they get what they want.

I get what you meann though.

Four Westpac employees among hostages

Westpac has confirmed that four of its employees were among the 17 hostages being held in Sydney's Martin Place.

All four are safe. One is undergoing medical treatment for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Westpac CEO Gail Kelly said two of the workers were "from one of our technology partners".

"It's a sad day for all of Australia as we learn of the tragic loss of life following the events in Martin Place, Sydney earlier this morning. My heart goes out to anyone touched by this tragedy," Ms Kelly said in a statement.

"However, it is with relief that we can confirm this morning that all four of our people ... are safe and accounted for following the incident.

"Our primary concern is the well-being of our people who were involved in this traumatic incident, along with their families. To that end, we are offering them all the support we can.

An alumna of the University of Sydney Law School, Ms Dawson completed her Master of Laws at the University of NSW. She was called to the bar in 2005 and her chambers are metres from the Lindt Cafe.

She has three children aged under ten - two girls and a boy - the eldest of whom are at Ascham and Cranbrook in Sydney. The youngest, a girl, is four years old.

Well then get prepared for more unnecessary deaths.

That is a very foolish approach to take.
Um there is the risk that by surrendering to the demands the gunman may not hold up his end of the so called simple bargain. It's just as foolish to cave into the demands because it shows the gunman is in control of the authorities. Just because he says he will do something doesn't necessarily mean he will do it.

At least some media outlets are acknowledging this terrorist guy's mental health issues, and his past history (He killed his own wife) and aren't unnecessarily associating him with Islam.

However it is no surprise that a Wahabbi Sunni is once again seeking to sow terror by these terrorist activities. The same people (Saudi Arabia) that the US supports. Iran and the Syrian Government (Assad) are one to one up against these brutal animals (who are in the form of ISIS, Saudi Arabia and other stupid Sunni terrorist organisations.). But the US and the West do not support Iran and the Syrian Government, yet support Saudi Arabia. Something to be mindful of...
