Curve Sketching and integration are quite straightforward but as Riviet said Complex numbers does get a bit messy, especially when you are forced to use vectors or complex polynomials, still relatively easy but can be a bit hard at times. But hey, this years 4u HSC didn't have any of those hard complex :p

IMHO the easiest aspects of the 4u course are:

Curve sketching
Polynomials
Complex Numbers
Integration

What gets hard is:
Mechanics
Conics
Harder 3u
Volumes

OH and complex numbers isn't hard. It's just different. There's a steep learning curve at first but by the end of the 4u course it's probably the thing you'll be best at.

Three weeks till my 4unit exam and we haven't even started graphs yet... :mad1:
The only thing we've been doing is complex numbers. Well, that's the only thing that's gonna be in the test, anyhow :p

YAY same we only up to complex numbers as well ... although we have reached representation through vectors which isnt hard if you do physics and engineering ><

We've finished Harder 3U - inequalities two weeks ago and have been doing Complex Numbers.

At first, I was understanding everything really well. I though "Hey, 4U ain't that bad." but now I'm starting ot struggle a bit but I'm going to really work on it this weekend and do some extra exercises. :)

I don't think we're moving that fast compared to other 4U classes but the 4U course is pretty fast paced. We need to cover so much material that I have to give up my lunch times.

We get a special tutorial/"no new material" lesson tomorrow. Yay! :)

It took I think 6 weeks or so to cover complex numbers for us. So as a result of that we didn't cover any of the harder premutations/combinations, which the HSC questions weren't too bad in this area :D

But we had finished the 3u course by the 7th or 8th week of the third term, giving us plenty of revision time and slotting in the 4u courses instead of doing the 3u course

That sounds great, I hope I finish my 3U course early as well so we can do extra 4U classes.

So far, 4U is fun/interesting. Although, that doesn't mean it's easy for me. :p

That's why alot of schools tend to do the harder 3u topic last.

I would say complex numbers was the hardest topic even though it was the first topic my class started with and for some reason, up till the trials, i just couldnt get volumes anymore after the half yearlies.

I started on complex numbers as well. I dont find them difficult, but there is alot to remember. Thats the only topic ive done and i just did de moivres theorem. I only do 2 hours a week for 4u. It doesnt seem like enough. What do all u guys do, hours wise. Im the only one in my class as well. I see it as a good think, but there will be no one to push me. What type of numbers are in other classes?

Liar as if only 1-2 hours... i thought it was more like 15minutes a day... still better than my 5minutes a week policy for 4u

OMG I do not get vectors complex numbers.. I just don't get it!!
It's getting me more and more frustrated. :burn:

On the second day of doing graphs, the teacher taught us how to draw 5 graphs at once. FIVE!! God damn it!! Geez I don't even know the basics, and he just expects me to know how to draw FIVE variety of graphs??? Grrr... He just thought everyone understands because of a few that do tutoring understands.. OMG.

I think I am suffering from 4unit maths stress. :(

I have never felt so lOSt.. NEVER!! Especially in maths..

*Takes a deep breath* Man I seem to be the only that is struggling..

dont stress that much. if you cannot keep up with the teacher's pace at school, make sure you take down all the notes (whether you understand them or not just.. transfer image from blackboard to your notebook) this way you can study it once you get home.. and pretty much just work at your own pace... otherwise ull crash and burn before the hsc.

edit : alot of ppl in my school struggles with 4u (well from this yr anyway) but if you work at it in the end ull just get there. (ps im from the same school as lottox aka nsbhs)

Thanks for that advice.

I think I am just anxious about the exam coming up. I have got too high expectations of myself. Everytime I don't get a question I just feel hopeless and lost.

Anyways have fun bludging since your hsc is over!! :)

just keep sticking with it.. if u cant understand the school work then just copy the notes down and read over it at home.. but u have to keep up.. if u fall behind ur done for..!!.. just read the examples etc.. ask qn on this site.

if i dont get a qn i just sometimes just lay down and think about it for couple of hrs.. and then it suddenly comes :p

but this might waste a bit of time..
