Hi economics students!

i know we can be asked to write an essay on everything, so we need to know everything in syllabus. But still WHAT ARE THE LIKELY TOPICS THAT WE CAN BE ASKED TO WRITE AN ESSAY ON?i stuffed up my trials so i need to obviously do reasonably well in HSC. please help

P.S. i already wrote an essay on "Globalisation and its impact on South Korea" and "External Stability"

thanks in advance

They're usually pretty integrative - something that allows u to show the full extent of ur knowledge and relate the different components of the economics syllabus, as well as allow the better students to show their understanding and appreciation of what's actually happening.

keep in mind however, the essays questions were written about 9months ago - so there won't be something specific about last month's economic data. Knowing the trend for the past 2 years is helpful in that instance.

What policies the government has available to them and how they use them/why and to what effect will probably be asked in some form.

Also know the more basic, straightforward questions that require you to explain the causes, problems and "solutions" to unemployment and inflation.

Short answer: you can't really guess the essay topic - but if you view the syllabus as being an integrated, linked body of information whereby everything in the economy relates with eveything else, you can bring almost anything into any question. It's much easier to understand and display your knowledge if you view it as such rather than in discrete units of syllabic content.

Try look at past papers and trial papers as well! good luck! :D

hehe i banked on not needing to write on ESD last year as well. Thankfully i was saved. I can't really see there being sufficient material to consider it beyond a short answer question. But hey, as long as you know everything else solidly, u can afford to leave out 1 topic (essay wise...they may still get u in the SAQs!) ;)

yeh exactly... chances are if youve studied 75% of the work well u will be able to write a pretty decent essay for bot h questions... just pick the one u know more about

for case study i always do the australia ones when they come up - why learn more stuff than u need to?

I did that. Our teacher didnt really advocate we learn a case study - just learn everything else. Well, i mean i crammed China info coz i'd been collecting info on it all year for another eco assignment, but i was 99% sure i would not write on it.

ok thanks guys, i am going to stick with South Korea for HSC because it is a bit easier to get good marks (the marking creteria is pretty vague). anyways in my practise essay on External stability i mentioned:
3 main measures, their role, what they are used for and also past and current Government policies to maintain ES.
can you tell me if i need to mention anything else??

Thanks friends!!!!

My teacher has correctly picked the questions this year and she thinks that it is a globalisation w/ BOP question and a monetary policy question.
