Amongst the chaos of HSC maths i found myself doing this all the time. lol

I dont trust myself with simple addition anymore especially ones that involve negative numbers! the calculator was the only reason i passed maths.

in year 9, i told my science teacher that the reason birds regurgitate their food for their young is because baby birds hadnt grown their teeth yet...

sadly enough i have had so many nerdy and blonde mistakes... i could write a novel.

There was someone in my Extension 2 class who wrote in their exam that sqrt(3 + 1) = sqrt(3), i.e. 3 + 1 = 3. I figure that the higher level of maths you do, the worse your basic arithmetic gets

In the last specialist maths test we had (equivalent to 4U i think), more than half of the class got a slope field question wrong due to not recognising where the point (0,1) is. Most had (1,0) instead.
The teacher was a bit speechless, lol.

mx1: my teacher was talking about radians. he had written 1 degree on the board, with the degree symbol. i stared at it for a few seconds and then asked by he had written one to the power of zero. i probably should've stared it at for a few seconds longer..

I totally agree, my ext2 half yearly, complex numbers question... 2x2=2... that one mistake then meant my answer was entirely real, then part b asked about the imaginary part of the solution... what makes it worse is i then went through my working to try and find where i made the mistake... but couldn't... it cost me 4 marks.

haha i was that confused, then again, i hadn't been listening in order cotton onto the fact we were discussing radians.

i make stupid blonde mistakes all the time, but that was probably the worst haha

i hated radians... it was a completely new process i had to keep remembering pi equals 180 degrees not 3.14...
if that's the worst, you're doing pretty well

My best friend and i had a few blonde moments when it came to year 11 chem practicals.... there was the time she was seeing how close she could get a candle to her face causing her to set her fringe on fire... there was the time we were setting up for an experiment and sat the bunsen burner on top of the tripod, then proceeded to stare at it for a few minutes before working out what was wrong... then there was a time we stood and allowed a large amount of dangerous yellow gas to come from an experiment before questioning if there was something wrong with it... We're not dumb people i swear, we just had our moments. Thank god we don't have to perform practicals as a part of the HSC exam =)

Oh i hate things like that! Or doing a page worth of working and getting the wrong answer, working on it for ages, only to find out you made one of those basic 1+1 errors in the first line which fucked everything else up.

yessss! or you leave your calculator in radians when doing a degrees question and getting something very, very wrong - or vice versa. i have to be so careful in tests to always switch it back, although sometimes i forget until i spend 3 minutes working out why it is not at all working haha

Yes!!! it took me so long to get used to switching between radians and degrees, one of my friends and i drew large arrows on our calculators pointing to the bit on the screen that shows whether it's in radians or degrees because we kept screwing questions up.

I've gotten used to keeping my calculator in radians mode all the time, and it sucks having to change it back constantly particularly in Extension 1.

I do 4U, where radians are used pretty much exclusively.
