argh dlink router
i've had the pleasure of ripping my hair out trying to fix one of them

quick solution to your problem, buy a new router, my suggestion, minitar - cheap stuff that actually works!

if not, update your firmware and see if that helps

Thats news to me that your browser or their web server can detect whether you're using a wired or wireless network. Can you post a screenshot of that message?

it says : "do not upgrade firmware on any dlink product over a wireless connection. failure of the device may result. use only hard wired network connections"

Where do you see that message? On the website you are downloading it (what is the webpage?), or when you try to run it the firmware upgrade?

it means connect a computer to your router with a network cable, and then upgrade your firmware.
not your wireless internet....

it needs a constant steady connection, and wireless ain't all that great.

See that tends to be the problem. Without being able to give us helpful diagnostic information other than it doesn't work, there isn't much we can do for you. There is no one magic "fix it" button you click and it all starts working.

We still don't know whether you ended up doing that firmware upgrade....

just download the file onto your computer
and then just open it and follow the instructions!
