Since the current on is being abused.

Any ideas of of how it could be improved?

I've been trying to think, but haven't come up with something yet

firstly i think reputation should be removed from non-school since posts don't count there anyway.

mabye, record the posts reped by everyone in their profile so that if ppl are randomly repping, they may be dealt with.

any other ideas?

I think it should be removed altogether.

The most foolproof system is that all repping needs to be approved by a mod or admin of the sub forum before the rep is added.

However, that will overload the mods and make the repping system biased

Yes. Which is why I think it should be removed altogether.

how is it useful?
so far i havent seen any usefullness to it, apart from keeping me entertained.
and besides, isnt it simply a popularity contest?

The current situation is far from perfect atm. And even though certain members are just randomly bumping each other up, the admin can give a heap of points to members who are deemed helpful, and I'm sure later on this will be used.

In some senses, the system in place now is like post counts, most people will get over it (eventually), and the current reping restrictions are adequate imo.

I agree.

It is potentially useful, but to keep it being used correctly is too difficult for what its worth. Post counts can already give a rough indication of a poster's reputation.

most ppl are too lazy to rep slightly valuable posts.

also most ppl asking for help are new members and can't give rep.

But, i agree with the time factor, mabye things will even out in the future

I would say that's the most unfortunate things. (People might not be as inclined to help n00b members...) And if you look at the rep count (Member List), half of them have just been bumping each other up. Ah well. But only time will tell

yeah at the moment people have been bumping each other up, it might fade away as the novelty wears off and people can't be bothered. i suppose it's fun and amusing, i like it there, i don't know how it can be made better

Why do you feel the need to continually start threads about reputation? For the moment, we're living with it. It's not the best feature, it can be modified so get over it.

No grey means it doesnt count. The member doesn't have enough posts, negative ones appear in red and deduct rep.
