should i get a new comp now or just before uni?
as in will there be significant changes like new processors, graphics, software etc, like super cool new stuff or a dramatic lowering of prices.. should i wait or how long if i should wait? i'm not in THAT much of a need to get a new comp.. i like gaming but only when i have nothing else to do so... i dun need a leet graphics whatever

it depends ... if u want tp lay games in the holidays then get it rite after hsc. ur getting for uni rite...
yea so if ur kinda of a gamer... if u want the7900 GTX(graphics card) then i sugguest u wait till the 8800 series comes out...

btw u cant go wrong with intels E6600, kiks amds ass big time hahaha

If you don't need it now, I'd wait. As a general rule, the longer you can wait, the more you can get for the same amount of money, so with any luck you'll be able to pick up a better system at the same price.

Wait if you can. Mind you, you DO need to do stuff in first year to make sure you're on top of things and don't fall behind at all, so maybe after christmas?

I agree with insert-username.

As for imminent-release products (which may be of relevance to you):
- Quad-core processors making a retail debut this month, supposedly. However with only high-end models being part of the initial release, you will probably want to pass. Dual-core should do fine for general activities.
- First DirectX 10 video cards. NVIDIA will release their 8800GTX flagship along with the 8800GTS soon. However they are both enthusiast cards which cost a hefty amount of money.. so you may want to pass here too.

If you're looking for a laptop, I would definitely recommend waiting for Intel's new Santa Rosa platform (4th generation Centrino).

i heard that the macs coming out around 1.2-1.9k are pretty good value but you need to spec them up but still value > that of dell customizations =S

wait = better, but if u wanna game during your like 3 month break you might wanna grab a rig now.
