and cmadoggz, sorry for my rudeness.
i liked your video- i never gave feedback. i liked the techniqus you used, such as the heart in the shower and the one swimmer becoming two.
question: did you (previously) know the owner of the grave that you filmed? or ask permission to use it? or was it just some random?

too true re: tuning at onstage - haha... and i'll second the motion that drama is a hott subject... Thanx for the feedback re: my film... Funny you should mention the heart in the shower - it was the one image that sticks in most peoples heads after they watch it... In my first draft, I originally had the shower scene as a full-on hardcore f*** scene - complete with *doof doof* porno beats... But i toned it down about 20 semi-tons haha... The heart is a bit titanic-ee, but adapted to a romantic context... The graveyard shot was the hardest thing to do - i had to seek permission from council and from the owners' family... Plus on top of that - the day i scheduled to shoot, it didnt rain (and i wanted it too) - so i had to shoot in sunny daylight, then bring the contrast and brightness down and add a rain effect on top in After Effects... So yeah... Why do you ask about the grave?

i went to Onstage and saw Program B.

The standout performance was without a doubt "Nutcase"...it was sooooo good n so funny!!! kept me entertained the whole time. I also liked "The Peacock" that was pretty good too!!

I thought all the others were pretty average compared to years gone by and i was a bit disappointed i must say. The great ones inspired me to do that well this year and the average ones inspired me to do better then that this year!! Hopefully thats wot i can achieve...

I totally agree that Will from "Nutcase" and the guy from "Searching for Sunshine" were HOTT!! i hate to say it but it added to the interest as its one of the first things you notice when sumone walks on stage. I think it mite have sumthin to do wit marks n stuff but those guys were great performers no matter how they look...

cmaddogz, what camera did you use for your vid? and how long did it take you to film?

used the panasonic NV-MX7A... But i wouldnt suggest using it... Or any Panasonic cameras for that matter... They are extremely prone to faults and failures, so your best bets are to go for a Sony or Canon... My suggestions are the Sony DCRVX2000 and the Canon XL1s... I filmed for about 20/25 hours total... The thing which takes the time is your other productions aspects: pre-production and post-production. Also the organisation of your actors/locations/props is really hard... For more tips, check out the Bruce Campbell and I's discussion in the post in Drama titled "Noobies Considering Video Drama" (http://www.boredofstudies.org/community/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16614)... Did you end up hiring a camera yet? Or are you gonna buy one?

hey.. that jai guy you guys were talking bout... so his group performance AND individual performance made it in? sorry im a bit late.. i just read this whole thread today! i didnt get to go and see this year's onstage.. i went last year though.
im surprised that none of you mentioned from last year's onstage that ip a girl did where she was searching for treasure... i think it was in program B.she had this big knotty brown afro hair and her movements were spectacular!my memories of her movements are what are inspiring me in my ip this year.
well anyway, back to jai... if i am correct, is he kinda tall, broad and blonde? lol... my friend thought he was pretty cute! if ive got the right guy, then i saw him on friday arvo/evening. he was at the senior drama ensemble helping mr paul vines judge....
oh yeh! and for those of you in another thread who were bagging out paul vines... .im not trying to defend him or anything... but he seems nice!not at all the dickhead/mandrake you mentioned!

Jai's from my school He's really tall, reminds me of one of those huge rugby guys with huge heads and not much in them... no offence to Jai though

i have to say i loved nutcase best by far. the guys had great focus and were over all excellant actors. my fav monlogue was the ceo one where it was a modern mcbeth. i thought the idea was orignal and very true while entertaining. it showed how relevance shakespeare is today with its universal themes

My favourite individual performances from Onstage were The Liar and Blanche. Blanche was probably the best although I was disappointed and disgusted with the audience reaction to it. I seemed to be the only one in our group (which had about 50 members) who liked The Liar though. I think it might just be my twisted mind.

The best (or my favourite) group performances were Don't Think For Yourself and Nutcase. Obvious reasons- The guy humour wins it for me every time.

Haha - something like that... Well, actually i just pay alot of attention to things i like... So lots of Onstage stuff is really interesting, dunno bout my memory being good or whateva... I can't remember where i park my car, can't remember if i locked the front door, stuff like that haha....

The Liar wasn't liked by many people, i didn't see it but i heard... But alot of people didn't like the "good lady of schezuan" but she was a brilliant actresss, and had beautiful movement and talent... So it shows how critical drama can be... The marker's may have loved a performance, but an audience may find it a bit boring... So in all, you really have to decide on doing on of the three:

* creating a piece which will please the markers only, OR
* creating a piece which will please the audience only, OR
* creating a piece which will please both markers and audience!

Obviously we know which would get the best mark (or Band) and the most chance of getting into Onstage (or at least getting nominated)

Hey guys, sorry im another late reply-er, i only just found this thread today. Onstage was absolutely brilliant, it really put some stuff into perspective for me. ABSOLUTELY LOVED NUTCASE, and yes everybody is right, WILL WAS DAMN HOTTT!!!! I saw him come out afterwards, cept me and my friends were too scared to go up and talk to him... besides, he was wrapped around some chick, so we didnt think he would really be interested in talkin to some adoring fans, lol
The Liar was tedious, thats for sure. I switched off after about the first 30 seconds, I honestly dont remember anything that happened in it.
Blanche was a little more interesting, but the accent was a little hard to interepret - like in The death of an Anarchist, and Ship of Fools. I was really disappointed that sooo many groups felt that they needed to perform their entire piece with an American accent - we didnt actually see a program, it was kinda scrambled up, but of about the 10 acts we saw, five were in american accents! thats sad guys, surely an aussie accent isnt THAT lame.
But yeah, i cant really comment some more on the acts, cuz i cant really remember much else......... oh what about that GP that wass all girls, four of them, who did Joan of Arc & Juliet etc ect? They were ok dont you think, they were very versatile with their ladder, but all the same they werent terribly inspiring. I think some of the language used by the chik playing Joan was too strong - if she was trying to drive a point home (feminism, im guessing) she could have done it other ways. Even our teacher commented on that. (Mrs Deb Bailey)

ok so yeah, thats my little spiel, just hope everybody hasnt already forgotten about this thread lol, i know its kinda a bit late, but oh well, betta late then never!

stuff - go through a few of the earlier threads... There's stuff in old threads which has tips... But off the top of my head, i'd suggest working straight from the syllabus - only give the markers what they want to see, and give the audience what they will enjoy watching... Don't make it a boring performance... Be eccentric....
