Mr Darcy was only like 6 or 9 years older than Lizzy Bennet though.... ;) and he doesnt look like Colin Firth either, I checked his profile on the web. ;)

Hmm, I'll probably just go in there on Tues and see how it goes. At worst, I'll just have gained interview practice and at best, got work experience. :)

... And it seems that not-that-bright may have the Electron complex - the male version of Electra .
Wouldn't that be the oedipus complex?
Btw, what about like... knowledge of current cases? It might seem impressive if you talk a bit about some case that's in the news or whatever.

No, it couldnt be Oedipus because Oedipus loved his mother. This man is not a mother figure, but a father figure. Hence my play-on-title of Electron rather than Electra... So its a male version of the Electra complex.

...This is all they taught us in first year psych! Thankfully its progressed somewhat from crappy old Freud theory!

Is psych fairly hard? Sorry to steal the thread a little but I'm considering switching over to Macquarie and i'm not sure if I like media anymore.

No, psych isnt hard at all. Once you have the basics it all just flows from there, especially things like social and developmental psych because you see it everywhere you go. There are subjects that are a bitch, like we had one on perception which drove me insane I thought it was terrible, but thats also because I'm not interested in it in the slightest. So there are a few subjects you have to battle though - like stat- but once its over, its so, so worth it for the ability to study something so interesting and applicable to everyday life!

And its also cool learning how to fuck with someones head, and antagonise neurotransmitters to induce Alzheimer's and Parkinson's-like effects, or make rats heroin addicts, and things like that :)

What uni are you at at the moment? Maybe check out the course structure, like all the core units, especially the third-year electives (just to make sure you have some interest in some direction). You might even be able to get credit for your media units you've completed.

I'm getting $16 an hour, so its a slight drop from retail. Its basically clerical award.
Happy congrats hugs to MaryJane :)

Can I ask a question: what do people think about this ...

I think I need to get a job in the legal services sector (given I eventually want to be a laywer ...)

However, at my current job I get about $27/hr with the flexibility to work between 10 and 20 hours a week, based on what I can reasonably justify as work needing to be done. That has meant that my annual income from that job has been about $38,000 before tax.

Is it in my interest to try for a paralegal job given that I think I will have to cop a massive drop in pay and deal with a much more formal work environment?

Do the pros - a job in the law - outweigh the cons - (much) lower pay????

... I'm so uncertain ... woe is me ... :(

EDIT: why can't there be a firm down at the beach specialising with the law of surfing ...

You can. Well, if Sandy Cohen (from the OC ;) ) can do it, why can't you?

edit; well, he doesn't specialise in the law of surfing, but he has a surfboard and the office is on the beach.

First year psych is great, very good mix of areas, but after that you get into more technical things and have to do statistics.. which for a mathsphobe like me was out of the question :(

God gave man a penis and a brain but not enough blood to operate them both at the same time!

That is very correct. I believe it has something to do with the direction flow of blood in the body.
