I did the Drama and Visual Arts combination.
Plus my other subject were Chemistry, Adv Eng, Eng Ext 1 and Modern.

No maths.

Got 93.65 (country school) for UAI. Drama and VA were band 6 with 94 and 95 respectively being HSC marks.

English, 3u Maths, Bio, Chem, German. It was pretty balanced but English I only did coz I had to and German... well, it was either that or Physics and a) I found it boring and b) my teacher drove me nuts. But in the end I found it good that I had German to balance out maths and science... it lets you think about something different for a change and stops you going crazy.

I know someone who did 4U English, 2U Art, 2U Drama, 3U Music (i think :S ) & 2U DT

She had 5 Major works due and got glandgelor fever halfway through the year......she ended up still getting 98.9


And im doing Drama, English, Business, Maths, modern and 3German.....so im not really specialising......am i?

I definetely agree that diversity of subjects is the way to go. I personally think that its too early to specialise when you are what, 16? School is the chance you have to figure out what interests you and what you are good at, and having said, the entire time at school, not merely junior/middle school. Year 11 and 12 is significantly different to the previous years, plus its the time when students actually focus.

Anyhow, id be more interested to know what are the proportion of ppl that get over 95 without doing any extension subjects.

I wouldnt know anything about specialising. I think I have one of the most diverse ranges of subjects available: adv. english, maths, chem, mod. history, geo, music. I think I'd be bored if I didn't have that nice range.

i do 4u english, ancient history, modern history and legal studies, and i dropped extension history... i like it this way although it is a LOT of essay writing all the time :x

i still strongly believe you can do well no matter what you do. kfunk might remember the girl who duxed our school when we were in yr 7? got 100 or damn close to it with only humanities subjects.

It's safe to say i'm weird with my 4u maths, 3u eng, 3u history and eco (dropped Chem, best decision ever!)....... there is no common link really....

lmao your not weird, I do 4u english, 3u maths, economics and computers and also dropped chem (BEST DECISION) lol. Champion!

no maths here. i dont even remember what a quadratic equation is in all seriousness. never really did calculus either. by that point of the year i had pretty much decided i wanted to drop maths and started concentrating on my histories and english so i could pick up extension units.

I do two similar languages...it is band in the way that occasionally i mix up words but it has so many advantages - many things are very simliar...or i can remember one thing from the language by comparing it to the other....

I also know people who do both IPT and IT and they find it really helpful

I think it depends on what you want - a mix is good cos it gives you more options, but at the same time you have to apply lots of different techniques to learn the stuff. If you specialise you only have to learn a lot of one type of thing.

I'm finding that it's not the diversity of subjects that is the problem, it's the looming presence of three major works, a lot of essays and very tricky 3 unit maths exams.

I think the sciences are best cos all you have to do is learn the syllabus points (very specific), and practise doing some of the questions and it's all good. Music is the hardest to study for cos it involves lots of aural stuff as well as specific theory and essays...
