i am currently in year 11 and do physics and just finished the first module. i originally picked physics cause i liked and excelled in it in year 10 but after doing the world communicates i am hating it. now i am just wondering if it gets any better in year 12 or even towards the end of year 11

The world communicates to my belief is only really in medical physics, briefly in year 12 option topic. But things like the basic wave in motors and generators (Very basic) But otherwise, the moving about topic is sooo interesting with collisions and shit. electrics did bore me a bit although. But year 12 is sooo awesome. Space is mind blowing, especially when it comes to speed of light and Einsteins Special relativity and stuff. If you hate it . . . My best mate tried to keep it because of family pressure. First assesment of year 12, last. Either put the work in and discover you love it :p Or drop it start of year 12

Better / worse are subjective and I think physics comes down a lot to your teacher, but imo...
Motors and Generators is probably worse/more boring, but the space topics are excellent and make up for it completely, pretty awesome stuff in there.
Electrical Energy was okay I don't really remember it tbh, Moving About destroyed me but if you're good at maths then you'll probably like it, it's definitely interesting.
Ideas to Implementation had it's interesting bits sure but is more about physics and ideas that had been developed over time (kind of a brief history on specific aspects), I didn't really like it though. (most probably due to teacher)
Then it depends which elective topic area your class does (almost certainly chosen by your teacher unless they're pro at all of them).

I am completely behind what Pheonix posted above.
Motors and Generators is no good. I didnt like it.
Space is good and there is nice concepts. Moving about was also quite good. (this wasnt the case for Pheonix but each for their own)
World communicates was easy but is boring and Electrical energy wasnt good (similar to motors in HSC physics).

Can anyone comment on how good Ideas and Implementation is compared to Motors and Space?!?!
And how is astrophysics if any did it?

Ye if I wasn't borderline retarded at maths Moving About would have been way more fun lol.

If motors is 2/10 and space is 10/10 ideas to implementation is like 6/10 maybe 7. Though it's not quite as 'physicsy' as the other topics, it has a reasonable sized history/theory component (which isnt boring just different imo) and also superconductors and other cool more practical aspects (especially if you can go somewhere to play with them, werent allowed at my school). It's one of those topics that some will love and some will really dislike I think.

Thanks for your reply Pheonix. Good insight.

I just think motors is quite bland and weird concepts that can be counter-intuitive such as the EMF creating a magnetic field. I gather that youre at University now, what course are you studying?

I'm doing primary teaching / arts, thinking of maybe doing high school science or computing afterwards unless I like primary too much lol.

I didn't like World Communicates but I got full mark for my research assignment on GPS.

I think the motion things are alright but I didn't pay attention....

In year 12, I aced Space and Motors and Generators because I was genuinely interested in learning them

Well good luck doing which ever one you like most. Primary teaching would be quite fun.

Space was awesome. Motors not so much.

Yeh Medical, was easy as lol.
Was it fun? My teacher is reluctant to teach anything other then Astro or Quanta as theyre the only ones he knows well and he doesnt want to have to write up a schedule thing as there is a new National syllabus thing coming in or something.

Not really, it was mildly interesting at best but really quite simple stuff.

For ideas to implementation,

the superconductors was interesting, and the cathode rays were ok

the transistors were bleugh

Let's swap then, mine is pretty set on teaching Medical Physics and I want him to teach Astrophysics! Haha.

There really isn't a right answer to which topic is the best, it's all down to personal preference. I enjoyed both the Space topics, and we just finished Motors and Generators which I found pretty boring.

Depends what you find interesting.

I personally like the HSC course more than the prelim (I find it easier as well for some reason :\ Maybe my brain matured over the holidays)

That is next for me, I done yr9/10 electronics so hopefully it will make the transistor stuff a little easier for me.

did :)
But yeah, I hated Motors and Generators. Mainly because the boys started having massive discussions about cars and engines and things I have absolutely no interest in. But I LOVE Space. Best topic ever
