could someone help me with refining my topic.
my topic is "money doesn't make the world go round"
what should i focus the pip on?
i was thinking of maybe like.. are people that earn alot of money from working happier than those that earn less money. or like money doesn't provide happiness. or something like that.
i really need help. also i dont know what my cross-cultural component should be.
has anyone got any ideas? please?

I'm not sure what it is exactly that you want to talk about with a PIP on models. Something about body image? It's overdone [and often very badly] and it IS BORING. It could work, if you think of something original to base it on. But otherwise, the markers have most likely read enough about how Kate Moss is the devil for starting that whole 'waify' look... and that all models are diseased and they have a negative influence on adolescent females.

What do you want to write about on sisters? Right now, it doesn't seem like anything that you can relate to society. Alot of things you do on family don't relate to society... like i keep saying, it's too personal.

The Kokoda track one could work [i think there was an award winning PIP on this is 06] .not sure how you would do it though.

i think i will do kokoda because its different
i just dont want it to be too much like a history account.
im not sure whether to talk about its affects on society today or the veterans.
my pop fought in the war at kokoda and both my uncle and aunty have walked the kokoda track. maybe i can incorporate something to do with that into it.

my sister passed away thats why i was going to do something on sisters...seeing as it is a PERSONAL interest project although it may be too personal.

i think the models idea is too overdone aswell. ill srcap that idea.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanksss

hey iv decided on the cheatin in a relationship idea it seems to have alot of opinions so itl get good reactions from people the fact of wat is cheatin is unclear within my class n peers.

i see the idea becomin some wat of a mind set of cheaters n the community on cheaters so in that case it sould be interestin

im thinkin for cross cultural male v female as we all no they have very different views on everythin to do wit emotional n physical relationships so i think it should work

wat do use all think

PS. does any1 have any points i should look at i have some just if i have forgot an idea its would be good

i was talking with my teacher today and i have a basic idea for a topic...lth impact the place you have in a family has on you as a person...cross cultually comparing youngest and eldest children...what do people think
hey sorry ive only got bak to this but i think its a great idea

family plays a huge role in socialisation therefore where u are placed in the family order will influenced how this is done

if ur the 2nd child u have influences from ur sibling who will have gone through things u are more recent then parents and also parents have experience in such issues as "the sex talk" if we go into reiduculas areas lol

economic also can be used if u are the 3rd kid money may be tighter then the first as they were feedin less faces

but if u use it like that n show how they change n benifit or worsen the opportunities n socialisation of the child

go wit it

hey i was considering doing my pip on stereotypes, well pretty much exactly the same thing as you. But i was convinced by my techer not to. His argument was that the topic was way to broad. So instead im thinking about calling mine "When i grow up i wanna be just like barbie", or something like that. Im going to research the various role models for young girlsand how they aspire to be jus like barbie. Im also going to compare barbie and bratz dolls. i will still incorporate stereotypes into it, and how girls feel as though they have to conform. what do you think?

geez i dont no many ppl that aspire to be like barbie i mean shit its barbie in a world that has become connected in all ways n all human role models are in the media in some way every day i sont really think females of young age are still wantin to be like barbie

stereo types are over done and if u do it it need to be extremely narrow specific to one stereo type it seems u could do a topic of the "mean girl" stereo type so to speak but not sure u would have to find a good angle but if u done that it could work but stereo types in general is too broad

I'm doing an investigation into attention seeking behaviours, specifically the construction of the "Drama Queen" stereotype. It is a stupid, boring topic, but I couldn't make up my mind about anything else.

My original focus was "Society's growing materialism and its effect on Generation Y's values". But after further refinement I've come down to “How has print and media advertising of materialism and Australian societal change within the past 20 years has allowed for a negative impact on Generation Y’s values?”

In anyone's opinion (i'm particularly interested in noir's if (s)he has time to reply), should I stick to my original focus or the latter. The latter seems to have a finer focus but it may not be appropriate. Any advice welcome!!!!

You guys all have such lovely ideas!

I'm really panicking, I haven't got a definite topic yet... eek.

So far I've come up with something along the lines of cultural identity, not but on a national scale, a personal scale. Thought I could interveiw people of different ages, ethnicities, and how long ago their family migrated to australia (first generation, fifth generation etc).

I know thats fairly vague. I just want to find out what other people think makes them australian. Thought of a title, should i choose to use it. "Dinky Di, or Die." The 'Die' bit i wanted to include stuff about what other people think you need to be to be australian, whether it's different attributes, or simply being a citizen. Could also analyse stereotypes a little bit.

Any thoughts? Comments? Constructive criticism?

umm yeh i have gotten the script for that episode. Ive also decided to compare the attitudes of barbie to bratz dolls. the Bratz motto is "passion for fashion", wat is this teaching young girls.

I wanted to do something along the lines of public/private school education as well; but my teacher told me not to because it may have offended the PIP markers depending on their school and it would also mean i had to go to different schools for the research and many wouldn't be interested in participating? and it would also be hard since the time of schools is also during our school time. i don't know?. But i've seen some PIP's done on public/private schools and they went pretty well.

^ IMO private VS public school is overdone

i know i want to do something on cultural identity
still in the middle of discussing with teacher about focus question but maybe something along the lines of how your cultural identity and how it is shaped (socialisation) and why my brother has a different cultural identity because he gives himself one and the if its more micro or macro world that influences this, if customs and culture is continued by force or by choice.. but its so broad >=[

the first one you mentioned wouldn't be a good idea only because you are mentioning promiscuity and therefore sexual behaviour which is what pip markers dont want. it gets abit raunchy.. and if you survey people from your school and find out they are promiscuous and they end up being under 16.. it brings up alot of problems in the school... do u get me?
