Due to popular demand, the Food/Drink subforum is now up... yay!

Okay, I've been to a lot of cafes and restaurants around the city and I'm getting bored of most of them... can anyone recommend any other awesome places? Preferably around the same area, but any other suggestions are more than welcome. Average prices would be good too :D

By the way, I recommend

Ramen-kan (Japanese)
Opposite Entertainment Centre, you have to go up a lift - there's a BOS sticker on it (no it wasn't me!)
Average price - you can get some fantastic stuff for less than $10, huge meals too... I don't think the dishes go above $15
Alcohol - yes.

It's a pretty small place and can get really crowded for peak lunch and dinner hours... but it's worth the wait.

Perhaps we should set up a template?

Eg.

Restaurant Name (Style)
Price: ...
Location: ...
Reservation Required?: ...
Description:
...

I'm thinking for prices, total cost of an entree+meal (no dessert) for 1 person

$00 - $20 Cheap
$20 - $40 Reasonable
$40 - $60 Expensive
$60+ VERY EXPENSIVE

Thoughts?

Dragonstar Seafood Restaurant (Yum Cha)

It is located in the Market City building near China Town on the top floor. I can't tell you the exact pricing but it seems quite fair - a group of us went there and even though we had a fair bit to eat we still only ended up paying around ten dollars each. The food is also of fairly good quality - though it does seem a tad repetitive (I think whenever you go to yum cha you will see lots and lots of dumplings though). I also believe there is a licenced bar there for those wanting a drink. No reservation required.

To add to that template I'd suggest "Comments:", e.g. about service and overall food quality.

Inferno Caffe (Pizza/Pasta restaurant)

Located in the food court of Broadway Shopping centre, inbetween the pasta place and the burger place. They have a small pizza + drink special for $9.90 and they also have large (ie big enough for two people) pizzas for around $19. They have the best pizza I have ever had as well as fairly quick and amiable service. No reservation required. I highly reccomend it for someone in the mood for a casual sit down lunch.

There's also one at North Ryde.. at Macquarie Centre, outside near the bus-stops.. Erm.. altho we dont do small pizzas tho.. The woodfire pizzas aren't that big.. I eat 5/6th of it myself ahahah.. best one is the Sizzling Bacon!!!

Prize cake is the Mars Bar Cheesecake.. altho I do fancy the Day Night Mousse..

Fruit cocktail is a must try..

But not great for the cheap-skates.. our pastas cost around $20 a plate =S

Damn I'm advertising..

Restaurant Name: Caesers in Leichhardt

Price: about $15-$30 per person depending on what you order, drinks are VERY expensive ( $5.00 for a cup of Coke)

Location: Norton Street, Leichhardt

Reservation Required?: Yes, if you need big tables and/or on Public Holidays

Description: Pizzas are quite tasty (even theie next-door rivals recommend it); best Italian Restaurant I've been too (haven't been to too many because of they are expensive); the seafood is really fresh-tasting and you gotta have the pasta, as always. There's a lot more but mind you, I'm not really good with Italian food names.

It's like $15 or something. Quite cheap. The range is pretty limited, and it's basic RSL-style food (nothing fancy), but it'll fill you up nicely.

If you want fancy buffet go to Centrepoint. The price is $45, though, and drinks are expensive. The range is preeety big, though, and the restaurant revolves so the splendid view is really what you're paying for.

Name: Captain Torres
Price: dunno about the tapas menu, but the restaurant meals were around 25-30
Location: Spanish Quarter, sydney (near cnr kent and liverpool st)
Reservation: not on a tuesday night. On weekends i'd say so, though.
Description: rich, delicious, hearty spanish food. Servings are pretty large. Decent service (backpacker waiters methinks), and the food arrived quite quickly (within about 10-15 minutes).

Ok so Dad DID find a leetle slug (or really fresh escargot) in his parsley, but it didn't put us off haha. That's how good the food was.
