I had a male acquaintance who every time he posts on the Orlando Bloom/Johnny Depp boards (well, ocassionally) he talks about how he could have been a good actor and gone to NIDA.

Not to put any cold water on your ambitions if you're serious.

I'm a bit of a drama nut, but more on the stagecraft side. My boyfriend and I may start up a theatre. I think amateur/local theatre may be good if you want to show your talent, or the Victorian College of Arts has some good courses (though very competitive!) about acting and stagecraft.

What sort of roles do you enjoy playing?

Do you enjoy researching plays?

What field do you specifically want to go into - theatre, film or television? Do you want to do voice work, or do you want to be seen?

i tried out for nida and got a callback last year.

i was so sure that i wanted to be an actor, but after the heartless treatment and lack of empathy from the auditioners at nida, i realised that there is a weak soul in the industry, if there is a soul at all.

you may call me bitter, that is up to you, but be careful of selling out yourself in an attempt to impress some white-haired bitch on a high horse. they arent better than you, they can't treat you like shit unless you let them. i let them, and have realised my mistake.

i am now doing a course in journalism specialising in documentary studies. maybe one day i will have another go at drama, but i doubt it.

good luck to you all, but carefully consider your options, and for those in year 12, still study really hard, not just in drama but in everything...just in case.
