dont be scared my personal trick is to super summarise all my notes because with bio they like you to be succinct and too the point my notes now for the whole course are less than 20pgs but thats just the way i learn best go through the syllabus and highlight anything your not comfortable with then make sure u learn those things also practise papers are crucial to get a feel for the questions will be like hope this helps

Describe how food was prepared and sold in Pompeii and Herculaneum (4 marks)

Food was a crucial part of culture in both Pompeii and Herculaneum and was thus prepared and served in different ways. Within Pompeii food was prepared in a more commercialised way due to its prominence as a holiday destination. Thermopolia found in the forum suggests bread and snacks were served around Pompeii to save people making it themselves. The macellum within the forum provided fresh vegetables, fruit and meat in order for people to prepare their own food in a stone oven in their home. The bakery of stephanus also highlights the way in which a staple; bread was prepared. Several grain grinders and ovens were found within the bakery suggesting dough was made and baked. A variety of hotels such as the hotel of the muse also served people a variety of foods mainly bread as seen by carbonised loaves. Due to incomplete excavation at Herculaneum not much has been revealed in terms of food preparation. Fishing equipment found at a boat shed suggests seafood was a crucial part of the diet and was probably cooked or eaten raw. It has also been suggested that the town may of had some thermopolia for the residents convenience.

churches: i have no idea about statistics but the methodist, congregationalists and presbyterians joined together
Reconciliation: is the process by which australians attempt to right all wrongs concerning the mistreatment of the aboriginal people. Many religious groups within australia aid in this process by recognising and respecting the aboriginal right to the land and their culture.
Wik: that aboriginals had equal rights to the land as pastoralists but if a conflict occurs the land is kept by the pastoralists due to their contract.

These processes allow the body to maintain homeostasis via controlling the amount of certain substances in the blood stream.
*Filtration: occurs in the glomerulus where high pressure allows only smaller molecules/ cells to enter the nephron which controls what can be reabsorbed/ excreted. Toxic substances such as urea are filtered out of the blood and diluted in the collecting duct in order to be excreted out of the body. Other substances such as sodium, potassium and minerals are also filtered out of the blood and are expelled when in too high quantities. Thus filtration via the removal of certain substances from the blood maintains a regular blood composition through the excretion of unneeded/ damaging substances.
* Reabsorption: occurs in the nephron tubules and allows the blood to retain substances it is need of. The loop of henle as well as the proximal and distal tubules are responsible for the reabsorption of water and salt, when either is needed the walls of these tubules become more permeable to the substance needed allowing it to be returned to the blood stream. Other substances such as potassium, sodium and minerals can also be reabsorbed in the same manner allowing the body to retain substances it is in need of. Thus selective reabsorption ensures if a substance is low in the blood then it can be reabsorbed to maintain the blood composition and homeostasis

Baths were crucial in regards to leisure and as a centre for political and economic discussion. Many men met in the baths in order to discuss matters of politics in regards to voting and certain positions such as the aediles or duumviri. This was crucial as it ensured the movement and the advancement of the political system within Pompeii and Herculaneum. Many business propositions also occurred such as money lending which ensured the proper running of commerce and trade within Pompeii and Herculaneum via transactions. These functions of the baths are revealed via the stabian baths in which much graffiti has been discovered concerning business and politics. Both Pompeii and Herculaneum contained bath houses highlighting their importance in the daily life of the people. Aside from business and politics many went to the baths to simply socialise, providing a meeting place and gathering center for the community. Due to the limited excavation of Herculaneum there is not much evidence to indicate the specific functions of the baths but it has been gathered that they had similar uses to ones in Pompeii. Thus it is clear baths were important in terms of leisure, socialising, buisness and politics in both Pompeii and Herculaneum.

1 section of DNA wanted is located and separated using enzymes
2 Recombinant DNA technology used to ensure the DNA will be effective within the organism
